Job Description

Finance Director

An established and highly respected investment manager is seeking a Finance Director to join their close-knit team in London on a part-time, hybrid basis. This is an exceptional opportunity for a fully qualified accountant with proven experience in financial services to take ownership of the finance function, directly supporting the Managing Partner and playing a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's financial strategy.

What you'll do:

As Finance Director, you will play a central role in managing all aspects of the organisation's finances. Your day-to-day activities will include overseeing internal accounts, preparing detailed reports for senior leadership, guiding budgetary decisions, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. You will collaborate closely with partners during quarterly meetings to present key financial insights and drive continuous improvement initiatives. In addition to managing payroll, tax compliance, and benefits administration alongside HR colleagues, you will supervise junior finance staff and act as lead administrator for core accounting systems.

  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting and internal accounts, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clarity in all outputs for the leadership team.
  • Support the Managing Partner by providing insightful financial analysis and contributing to the development of robust financial strategies aligned with business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Take full ownership of the annual budgeting process, advising partners on maintaining financial stability and planning for sustainable growth.
  • Present management accounts, profitability forecasts, and recommendations for process improvements at quarterly partner meetings.
  • Lead efficiency projects across the finance function to enhance operational effectiveness and support organisational objectives.
  • Manage equity partner profit share calculations, tax payments, payroll processes, pensions administration, and staff benefits in conjunction with HR.
  • Develop and maintain effective control processes for all internal accounts to minimise risk across regulatory, operational, and firm-wide activities.
  • Prepare year-end accounts for all group entities and oversee the audit process in partnership with external auditors.
  • Act as the main point of contact for HMRC matters including PAYE, P60s, P11Ds, VAT returns, Corporation Tax filings, and FCA regulatory submissions.
  • Supervise the finance assistant in expense payments and invoice processing while leading system administration for accounting platforms such as Sage and Xero.

What you bring:

Your background should reflect deep familiarity with regulatory frameworks, particularly FCA requirements and a track record of producing high-quality reports under pressure. You are known for your meticulous attention to detail as well as your ability to communicate complex information clearly to both finance professionals and non-specialists alike. Your interpersonal skills enable you to build trust-based relationships across departments while nurturing junior talent through supportive supervision. Adaptability is key; you thrive when balancing multiple priorities or responding quickly to evolving business needs. Above all else, your commitment to upholding ethical standards ensures that every aspect of your work contributes positively to both operational resilience and organisational reputation.

  • Qualified Accountant bringing comprehensive technical expertise to the role.
  • Extensive experience as an accountant within the financial services sector is essential for understanding industry-specific challenges.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in FCA regulatory reporting requirements ensures ongoing compliance across all activities.
  • A proactive mindset with strong initiative allows you to identify opportunities for process improvement throughout the finance function.
  • Excellent attention to detail supports accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Outstanding organisational skills facilitate effective time management and prioritisation of competing tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Clear verbal and written communication abilities foster positive relationships across teams while presenting complex information succinctly.
  • A collaborative approach underpins your ability to work inclusively within diverse teams while supporting junior colleagues' development.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally between regional offices demonstrates flexibility in supporting wider business needs.
