Job Description
Job Overview

Facilities Assistant (Domestic Relief) - part time 30 hours per week (Mon Sun 7 am 1 pm). Located at Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale. Contract: Permanent.

Main Duties
  • Carry out general cleaning duties in clinical, sanitary and administration areas following the cleaning schedule and trust policy.
  • Ensure infection control, COSHH and health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Follow cleaning schedules to achieve required cleanliness levels.
  • Report incidents or near misses as per trust policy.
  • Store cleaning equipment and machinery correctly and report defects to the supervisor.
  • Dispose of all categories of waste safely in line with trust guidelines.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the band when requested by senior staff.
  • Familiarise yourself with and comply with all trust policies and procedures.
  • Attend mandatory training (fire safety, moving and handling, infection control) and additional training as required.
  • Work as part of the team to ensure cleaning tasks are completed. Teamwork and communication skills are essential.
Work Environment

The postholder will work within the Capital Investment and Estates Services department, providing cleaning services across in patient and community settings, including wards, clinics and administration areas.

Person Specification Experience
  • Experience delivering cleaning services.
  • Experience following COSHH and health and safety procedures.
  • Experience working with colour coding systems.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience following NHS national cleaning standards.
  • Experience working in a mental health NHS Trust.
Education / Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience.
Knowledge
  • Principles of cleaning services.
  • Cleaning methods.
  • NHS national cleaning standards.
  • NPSA colour coding.
Skills and Abilities
  • Good liaison and verbal communication skills.
  • Punctual and reliable timekeeping.
  • Ability to read health and safety documents such as risk assessments.
  • Ability to complete face to face and online training using a mobile phone or computer.
  • Ability to follow cleaning schedules and instructions.
  • Ability to work as part of a cleaning team and independently as required.
