Overview

Go back Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHSFT

We are seeking applications for a Locum consultant ENT surgeon with a special interest in Otology and/or Head and Neck. The department is committed to learning and development of surgical trainees and middle grade doctors, and teaching will be part of the role. There is a robust clinical audit programme which is multidisciplinary and occurs once per month; the post holder will be expected to lead clinical audits.

Main duties

The main duties of this role include independent management of all patients under your care, in particular your area of sub specialty. This includes independent surgical management of your caseload. The post holder will be expected to join the on-call rota (1:4 weekdays and evenings; 1:10 weekends as a regional on-call).

About us

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a caring and compassionate organisation that is both ambitious and innovative. We are committed to delivering the best outcomes for our patients and providing a positive experience for our staff. We aspire to be outstanding for our patients, our communities and our staff and are committed to being a great place to receive healthcare, work and learn.

Straddling the neighbouring boroughs of Warrington and Halton we are part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care system. Our hospitals are ideally situated to meet the growing healthcare needs of the population of these boroughs.

Warrington Hospital is home to our emergency, critical care and maternity services; Halton Hospital is focused on elective procedures and the Runcorn Urgent Treatment Centre, although many services are offered at both sites and in community hubs. A CQC-rated good organisation with outstanding features, we are working towards university hospital status, having achieved teaching hospital status in 2019.

Our workforce of nearly 5,000 across both sites comprises more than 50 nationalities. We strive to be an equal, diverse and inclusive employer, recognised as a pioneer in equality, diversity and inclusion work. The Trust is proud to have achieved numerous external accreditations and is working towards the Anti-Racist Organisation Framework.

Job responsibilities

Duties of the post: Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full-time ENT Consultant with a sub-specialism in Otology and/or Head and Neck to provide both elective and emergency care of ENT patients. The candidate will work on both the Warrington and Halton hospital sites for theatres and outpatient clinics. This is a full-time post in ENT amounting to 10 PAs. Applicants are required to be a Registered Medical Practitioner, MBChB or equivalent, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.

Responsibilities for the post include supporting provision of emergency and elective activity in the department. The post holder will be encouraged to develop sub-specialty interests in Head and Neck and/or Otology with support from the Clinical Business Unit to ensure sustainability of services. The current on-call system has a commitment of 1:4 (prospective cover) rota for weekdays and evenings at Warrington, and 1:10 for weekends (combined rota with Arrowe Park Hospital & Countess of Chester Hospitals) for ENT emergencies. Long-term plans propose a change to the on-call commitments to 1:4 weekday and weekends to cover Warrington and Halton only, once fully established with 4 ENT Consultants. The appointee will be responsible for providing advice on complex clinical problems, second opinions when requested, and delivering clinical care. The post holder will contribute to clinical leadership, development of services, MDT involvement, theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, and associated administration and SPA time. To maintain SPA, 2 personal audits per year are expected. The job plan includes outpatient clinics and theatre sessions; service development and CPD activities are encouraged.
