Main duties of the job What you'll be responsible for:
  • To plan, organise and ensure the delivery of neuropsychology and psychotherapy services in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service within the PMIC CAG.
  • To work with the leads/managers of the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service, other SLAM services and of other agencies/services to plan and deliver joint services that are integrated around the needs of service users.
  • To ensure the effective working of the team or service and a psychologically informed framework for the service.
  • To be responsible for the management of neuropsychology and psychotherapy resources in the service.
  • To ensure that the service has sufficient materials and equipment.

About the Trust

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.

SLAM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, we provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

KR 1 Clinical and Client Care
  • To plan, organise and ensure the delivery of neuropsychology and psychotherapy services in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service within the PMIC CAG.
  • To plan and organise the integrated delivery of services which ensure the co-ordination of neuropsychology and psychotherapy services with other services.
  • To provide highly specialist neuropsychological assessments, formulations and interventions for clients in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service, including clients referred for specialist neurocognitive assessment, and providing individually tailored psychological interventions aimed at reducing distress or disability associated with cognitive impairment.
  • To provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions with carers or families of referred clients when required.
  • To assess, monitor and document risk management plans.
  • To ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the diverse communities who access the service, by obtaining service user feedback.
KR 2 Responsibilities for team or service clinical functioning
  • To work with the leads/managers of the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service, other SLAM services and of other agencies services to plan and deliver joint services that are integrated around the needs of service users.
  • To co-ordinate (and chair) team and service meetings for the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service to ensure effective functioning and review when appropriate.
  • To ensure the effective working of the team or service and a psychologically informed framework for the service.
  • To take a lead in ensuring the team or services ability to deliver accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
  • To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
  • To advise other members of the service on specialist psychological care of clients.
  • To liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned with clients in order to develop and review care plans. Ensuring care plans are collaboratively agreed.
  • To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
KR 3 Policy and service development
  • To interpret policies and guidance for application in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service and be responsible for policy development and implementation.
  • To initiate, implement and ensure appropriate service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues to improve the quality and delivery of services in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service and in partner services.
  • To ensure the consultation and engagement of service users in planning and delivering services which meet the needs of local communities.
  • To participate or lead Trust and CAG strategic development and implementation of new initiatives (e.g. national guidelines), through membership of committees and/or working parties.
  • To be responsible for applying clinical governance standards within the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service in conjunction with multidisciplinary colleagues, providing assurances.
  • To take a lead role in ensuring that services to clients are of a high quality and are managed efficiently, according to the overall requirements of the Trust, NHS and government guidance and standards. To adhere to the Trusts policy on duty of candour and the Trust complaint policy.
KR 4 Care or management of resources
  • To be responsible for the management of neuropsychology and psychotherapy resources in the service.
  • To ensure that the service has sufficient materials and equipment.
KR 5 Management and supervision
  • To deputise when appropriate for the CAG Professional Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy.
  • To provide leadership to psychologists, psychotherapists and other professionals in the Neuropsychology Neurorehab Service.
  • To ensure appropriate systems are in place for the clinical and professional supervision of psychologists in the service.
  • To lead recruitment of psychology and psychotherapy staff in the service.
  • To lead appraisals of, and personal development plans for, psychologists in the service.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Pathway, to be responsible for the management of psychology staff in the Neuropsychiatry Neurorehab Service, including allocation and review of work load, ensuring that clinicians adhere to the relevant Codes of Practice.
  • To provide professional, clinical and management supervision to less senior psychologists, assistant psychologists and trainee psychologists, and the psychological work of other professions as appropriate.
  • To co-ordinate the provision of neuropsychological consultation, supervision and training to psychologists from other services within the Trust and externally.
  • To support the practice of clinical neuropsychology within the directorate through the provision of advice and supervision as required and agreed with managers.
KR 6 Teaching and Training
  • To organise access to, and provide specialist clinical placements for, trainee applied psychologists and psychotherapists in the service.
  • To ensure all mandatory training as outlined by the Trust is completed and remains refreshed.
