About this job

Your new company Birmingham City Council is one of the UK's largest local authorities, committed to maintaining safe, accessible, and compliant public spaces.

As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the city's highways are free from obstruction and misuse, the council is recruiting a Highway Enforcement Officer for a short-term contract with the potential for extension.

Responsibilities

As a Highway Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for identifying and addressing obstructions, encroachments, and non compliant use of the city's highways and roads. This includes monitoring businesses and vehicles that may be in breach of regulations.

You will collect evidence, follow up on cases, and ensure appropriate enforcement actions are taken. You will be trained on relevant enforcement legislation. You will be travelling across the city and therefore a driving licence is preferred. Prior enforcement experience is necessary, but you will be trained on highway legislation.

Qualifications

You should be observant, confident in dealing with the public, capable of working independently while also being a reliable team player. A driving licence is not essential but may be beneficial for commuting between locations.

Benefits

You will receive a competitive hourly rate with holiday pay included and the chance to gain valuable experience in a public facing enforcement role. If you perform well, there may be an opportunity for contract extensions or to apply for a permanent position within the council.

Equal Opportunities

The role is open to all candidates. The Employer is committed to an inclusive career environment and does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, disability, or other protected characteristics.
