Design Engineer - Telecoms/Network Design

Location: Glasgow - Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite

Rate: £325 - £350 per day, all inclusive

Spec:

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join a technical Design Team supporting the delivery of telecommunications projects within the energy sector.

The Role

Working closely with Project Engineers and other technical specialists, you will be responsible for producing detailed engineering documentation from high-level project information and providing technical input throughout the project life cycle.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Producing comprehensive engineering documentation in line with project specifications and requirements
• Owning and managing end-to-end design documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Providing technical input into Change Requests (CRQs)
• Supporting the evaluation and implementation of technical changes
• Producing network design topology diagrams
• Updating network records
• Supporting Project Engineers during project delivery
• Providing technical guidance and helping resolve technical challenges
• Ensuring designs and documentation comply with relevant project standards and requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates with practical experience across telecoms/network engineering environments, including:

• SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy)
• PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy)
• IP configuration
• Routing and switching
• Cisco Routers and Switches
• AVARA PDH/SDH devices
• OTN XTRAN platforms, including MPLS-TP XTRAN Chassis and TXCare Management Software
• Cisco Prime Infrastructure
• Microsoft Visio
• Orion Modems
• Nokia 7705 SAR

You should also have:

• Experience translating high-level project information into detailed engineering documentation
• Experience supporting technical projects
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work effectively to tight project deadlines

Desirable

• Knowledge of electricity substation telecommunications equipment
• Understanding of DC power sources within telecoms environments
• Willingness and ability to learn new systems, technologies and processes
• Understanding of the time and detail sensitivity associated with regulatory projects

Qualifications

A degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience, is required.

Relevant industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or Nokia certifications would be advantageous.
