Field Engineer - Edinburgh

Location: Edinburgh/Scotland - no remote working

Contract: 6 months Rolling

IR35: Outside IR35

Rate: £200-£220 per day, all inclusive

Location Requirements

Candidates MUST already be based in Scotland. Relocation from outside Scotland will not be considered.

Candidates are ideally required within the following areas:

  • Edinburgh - EH
  • Glasgow - G
  • Ayrshire - KA
  • Paisley/Renfrewshire/Greenock - PA

Candidates based in the following areas may also be considered:

  • Dumfries - DG
  • Scottish Borders - TD

We are looking for an experienced Field Engineer to support the delivery, installation, commissioning, maintenance and assurance of a strategic telecommunications network across Scotland.

This is a hands-on field-based role supporting both provide and assure activities, working across network installation, commissioning, routine maintenance, troubleshooting and 1st-line support.

The successful candidate will have a strong telecommunications engineering background, including experience across SDH, PDH, Commtel, Microwave Radio and IP Networking, together with strong routing, switching and network troubleshooting skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver field engineering activities to agreed time, cost, quality and health & safety requirements
  • Support project engineers with project delivery and assurance activities
  • Complete required project and engineering documentation
  • Monitor progress against agreed plans and recommend corrective actions where required
  • Identify issues and risks and escalate appropriately
  • Provide timely and accurate communication to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure agreed technical, test and quality plans are delivered
  • Complete necessary project administration
  • Provide 1st-line assurance activities as part of a 24x7x365 service
  • Report relevant information and updates to the service support desk
  • Complete nominated routine maintenance activities as required
  • Maintain, monitor and troubleshoot networks and systems
  • Recommend improvements and cost reductions where identified
  • Respond promptly to assigned engineering tasks
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable engineering installation and commissioning experience
  • Experience carrying out assurance and maintenance activities
  • Installation of networks and equipment including:
    • Commtel
    • SDH
    • PDH
    • Radio
    • Xtran
  • Proven track record in the installation and support of:
    • DC Chargers
    • PDH
    • SDH
    • Commtel
    • Microwave Radio technologies
  • DC and AC experience
  • Excellent knowledge of routing, switching and data networking
  • Strong IP Networking knowledge including:
    • WAN
    • LAN
    • MPLS
  • LAN and WAN internetworking skills
  • Experience maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting networks and systems
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Alcatel products
  • Ability to work to applicable quality standards
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Relevant work authorisations required; training will be provided

Desirable

  • Relevant existing client work authorisations
  • Relevant transmission network authorisation
  • NRSWA
  • EUSR
  • IOSH
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Current DC/AC Competent certificate
  • Experience working within high-voltage substation environments from 11kV to 400kV
