An exciting opportunity has arisen for a deputy sister/charge nurse to join our friendly, highly motivated, dynamic and hard working Emergency Gynaecology team on A23 at QMC campus of NUH.
A passion for the delivery of high quality care is essential for supporting the needs of our patients. As a band 6 you will be required to be able to demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate others and deputise in the absence of the senior leadership team.
- You should have excellent interpersonal & communication skills
- Ability to manage the clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively
- Able to contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of local objectives and action plans
- Ability to make decisions and perform well under pressure
- Work collaboratively with external and internal colleagues to ensure patients are managed in line with SDEC principles.

This deputy sister/charge nurse role is essential to provide the safe and effective running of the A23 clinical area, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. Your role will involve providing direct care to patients as well as providing strong clinical leadership. It is essential you are empathic to the emotional needs of the women and their families attending GTU and A23. As a deputy sister/charge nurse you will be expected to be able to provide expert knowledge of gynae and early pregnancy complications on a 24/7 basis, working all shift patterns including nights.
This post is suitable for staff who have emergency gynae and early pregnancy knowledge and experience. You must be confident and clinically competent to manage all areas of the service on a daily basis.

A23 is a 16 bedded inpatient area caring for women experiencing gynaecological concerns and complications in early pregnancy. The team on the unit are exceptionally proud of what we do every day and we look forward to working with you. We work closely with AGTU, which is our emergency triage area.

Person Specification Training & Qualifications- Level one Adult NMC registration
- Relevant gynaecology / early pregnancy experience
- Evidence of continued professional development e.g. pain management, venepuncture & cannulation
- Diploma / Degree in health / nursing related studies
- Supervision / mentoring experience & skills
- Experience of gynaecology / early pregnancy / bereavement pathways
- Evidence of link nurse / audit / project work
- Ability to prioritise patients care/needs
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication
- Evidence of MDT working
- Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills
- Demonstrate an understanding of the deputy role
- Ability to interpret and analyse complex clinical and non clinical information
- Evidence of data collection and analysis
- Demonstrates the ability to use initiative whilst understanding own limitations
- Ability to prioritise own workload and recognise urgent and emergency situations
- Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to lead a team
- Ability to perform a whole range of nursing duties
- Flexibility to work shift patterns across days/nights, week and weekend shifts
- Evidence of moving and handling training
