Consultant Radiologist - Hepatobiliary Radiology

We are a multidisciplinary team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, looking for a consultant radiologist to work within the Department of Radiology at Denmark Hill. This is a replacement post supporting the delivery of HPB diagnostic and interventional imaging on a 8am-7pm consultant led rota.

The successful applicant will join the diagnostic or interventional rota according to their skill set, with 1:20 for diagnostic and 1:13 for intervention coverage.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide high quality care to patients, including all aspects of diagnosis, treatment and relevant management duties within the Care Group.
  • Shared responsibility with colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week coverage on a rota, covering annual leave and short term sickness as detailed in the contract.
  • Provide clinical supervision of junior medical practitioners and dental practitioners, as a shared responsibility with other consultants.
  • Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties and contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
  • Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.
  • Contribute to the Care Group's research interests, audit programmes, morbidity and mortality, clinical governance and learning from death.
  • Actively participate in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Group Business Plan and discuss service plans and developments with internal and external agencies.
  • Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for the service(s).
  • Exercise professional leadership for all staff in the specialty, fostering continuous professional development and maintaining post qualification education.
  • Work with clinical and professional colleagues to ensure staff productivity and job satisfaction, including involvement in the appraisal process for peers and junior colleagues.
  • Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
  • Adhere to all Trust infection prevention and control policies (hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene).
  • Prepare for and undertake protective interventions in a manner consistent with evidence based practice and patient safety.
  • Support a consultant led 7 day service, contributing equally with other consultants when necessary.
Person Specification Qualifications & Registration
  • Registerable medical qualification FRCR or equivalent.
  • Within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview.
  • Full registration with GMC and licence to practice.
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD(Res), PhD).
  • Evidence of CCT or equivalent.
Training and Experience
  • Wide experience of all aspects of radiology in the UK, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
  • Recent training and experience in specialist HPB Radiology.
  • Post CCT experience or fellowship in aspects of HPB and/or liver transplant imaging.
  • Non vascular interventional skills - ultrasound guided biopsies and drainages.
Administration
  • Experience in day to day organisation of radiology services in a busy hospital.
  • Familiarity with the current structure of the UK National Health Service and recent initiatives and changes.
Management and Leadership
  • Experience working within multi disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership capability within multi disciplinary teams.
  • Completion of a management course or qualification.
Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
  • Ability to lead change.
Research and Publications
  • Experience supporting clinical research.
  • Relevant research experience in radiology.
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
Teaching
  • Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation.
  • Teaching skills course or qualification.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year, excluding London Zone Allowance.
