General Adult Consultant in the Rotherham North Community Mental Health TeamThe successful applicants will be one of two consultants providing day to day medical support to the North Community Teams in Rotherham. The base for this team is Ferham Clinic in Rotherham with easy access to the M1 motorway. There is a Trust wide community review taking place from this year which will change the community teams function and bases to align with neighbourhood work.
Main duties of the job- To work with other members of the Community Mental Health Team to provide a comprehensive service to the patients under the care of the team. This will involve formulation, care planning, medication management, diagnostic review and medical support to other clinicians.
- To work in collaboration with the team manager to ensure an excellent level of care for patients there, this will involve weekly MDT for the purpose of reviewing referrals, medication management, oversight of holistic treatment plan and future care/discharge planning.
- To provide clinical supervision for the staff on the teams where necessary.
- To work with the Care Group Medical Director, Care Group Nurse Director, Care Group Director of Psychological Therapies and Care Group Director in the forward planning and further development of these Services within the Trust.
- To participate in the consultant appraisal process within the Trust.
- To take part in the 1:18 consultant on call rota within the Rotherham Mental Health Service.
- To participate in the reciprocal cross cover arrangements.
- To support and participate in clinical governance and audit.
- To contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching.
- To comply with all extant Trust policies and procedures and to contribute to the formulation of Trust Clinical Policies as appropriate.

Person Specification Qualifications- Full registration with the GMC
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT. Would consider a candidate with MRCPsych and AC approval
- MRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification.
- Higher Specialist Training in Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme)
- MD, Management qualification, other professional qualification (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT)
- Previous experience within General Adult Psychiatry
- Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings.
- Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance
- Prior experience working as a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry.
- Evidence of development of special interest
- Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care
- Other special interest/expertise relevant to the post.
- Knowledge of research processes
- Committed to Continuing Professional Development
- Sound knowledge of NHS management structures and systems
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7.5, Speaking 7.5, Reading 7.5, and Writing 7.5
- If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence.
- Clinical supervision experience/skills. The aptitude and potential to develop a leadership role within the service with special emphasis on leading on quality and clinical standards and engaging in service improvement
- Ability to undertake training/mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.
