Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust presents a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to make a real impact in Respiratory Medicine, combining professional fulfilment with meaningful patient care. The successful applicant will join a well-established team of seven consultants, supported by a group of specialist registrars, alongside a wider multidisciplinary team including inpatient/virtual ward nurses, specialist nursing teams, matron, physician associates, respiratory physiology team, pharmacist and dedicated administrative and management staff. The role involves delivering high-quality, consultant led patient care, alongside providing clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff, ensuring consistently high standards of care across the service.
Main duties of the jobPatient safety, dignity and compassionate care are central to everything we do. Delivering high-quality, consultant led care, while providing clinical leadership and supervision to medical staff to ensure the highest standards for all patients attending the hospital. Ensuring patients receive prompt assessment, timely treatment and effective clinical decision making, while maintaining and sustaining high standards of safety, quality and performance. Contributing to teaching and supporting the training and development of resident/specialty doctors. Actively engaging in the department's clinical governance agenda, taking on leadership roles that promote continuous learning, improvement and adherence to Trust clinical and corporate governance policies. Working collaboratively with clinicians and managers both within and outside the department to address service related issues. Participating in audit and quality improvement activities to support service development. Maintaining effective communication with local GPs and community services. Taking responsibility for managing and supporting a multidisciplinary team. Participating in the (GIM) on call rota. Contributing to service development and innovation and supporting the implementation of new clinical pathways to enhance patient care. Ensuring accurate, timely clinical documentation and effective use of electronic patient record systems. Providing cross cover and support to other ward areas when required.

Job responsibilitiesThe Respiratory Medicine Department at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our well established team.
The post offers a diverse clinical role, including involvement in respiratory outpatient clinics, triage of referrals, and the provision of advice and guidance. The successful candidate will also support consultant led care on the respiratory ward (Midgley Ward) and work closely with the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Medical Unit (AMU) in the assessment and management of patients presenting with respiratory conditions.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain comprehensive experience in respiratory medicine within a dynamic and supportive clinical setting.
Person Specification- Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice)
- CCT or CESR Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
- Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School
- ATLS / APLS / ALS
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
- Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD
- At least three years in Higher Training in relevant specialty
