Job Description
Consultant in Coronary and Structural Intervention 
Closing date: 28 May 2026
Full time (10 PA) position based at The Glenfield Hospital. The successful candidate will have 3 PA sessions per week in the structural and coronary interventional laboratory and participate in a 1:10 on call rota.
Responsibilities- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- Share responsibility for the day to day management of patients with colleagues.
- Promote new ways of working and coordinate care for patients in the community, ensuring services are based on effective and integrated partnerships.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff, appraise and assess them.
- Engage in teaching, research and administration.
- Proactively develop the service, including developing additional experience in structural procedures.
- Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
- Work with the structural team (TAVI coordinator, nurses, imaging consultants, cardiac radiologists, cardiac surgeons) to deliver high quality care to patients with valvular heart disease.
- Contribute to the coronary intervention service, including elective and inpatient coronary procedures and complex PCI.
- Participate in the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes.
- Provide RCT outbound clinic coverage, including nurse led rapid access chest pain clinic.
- Assist with management of TAVI patients and the structural consultant of the day rota.
- Commitment to the Trust's values and behaviours.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Full GMC registration.
- Fully accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligible to join the specialist register within six months of interview.
- MRCP or equivalent.
- Current ALS certification.
- Evidence of training and competence in structural intervention, particularly TAVI, with a structural interventional fellowship.
- Evidence of training and competence in coronary intervention with completion of interventional cardiology training.
- Membership of relevant specialist societies or associations.
- Fully trained in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology.
- Excellent clinical skills and experience to meet all aspects of the job plan.
- Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to complex problems.
- Demonstrated clear, logical thinking and analytical approach.
- Experience managing acute and general cardiovascular medicine.
- Proficiency in undertaking TAVI and other structural valve interventions.
- Experience with intra coronary imaging and invasive coronary physiology techniques.
- Evidence of clinical or research commitment and relevant specialty interest.
- Experience of other structural valvular interventions (e.g., Mitral TEER, Tricuspid TEER, LAA closure) and/or septal occlusions.
- Experience of complex coronary procedures in high risk patients.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
- Experience leading teams and awareness of leadership styles.
- Capacity to organise, prioritise and manage clinical workload.
- Understanding of the wider health agenda and modern NHS.
- Ability to overcome barriers to change (negotiating, influencing and persuasion skills).
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance issues.
- Evidence of management and administration experience.
- Management training on an accredited course.
- Awareness of service development issues.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English for effective communication with patients and colleagues.
- Empathic and sensitive, able to take others' perspectives and treat others with understanding.
- Highly developed emotional intelligence.
- Personal integrity and reliability.
- Ability to motivate and develop medical and non medical staff.
- High standard of written and verbal presentation.
- Track record of successful change management.
- Capacity to maintain focus in a demanding environment.
- Commitment to further develop the post and the service provided.

- Participation in a quality improvement programme.
- Experience of quality improvement work and audit.
- Completion of formal courses in audit and quality improvement.
- Published audit and quality improvement work.
- Understanding and interest in research.
- Ability to appraise research critically.
- Ability to supervise juniors undertaking research projects.
- Evidence of recent research and development activity.
- Publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer reviewed journals on subjects relevant to the specialty.
- Experience of and commitment to training undergraduate and postgraduates.
- Appraisal and assessment skills.
- Ability to assess clinical competencies.
- Enthusiastic and able to inspire and lead others.
- Willingness to develop new approaches to teaching.
- Postgraduate qualification in teaching and training.
