Consultant Gastroenterologist with interest in Neuroendocrine Tumours

Applications are invited for a unique opportunity to reshape the future of Gastroenterology and Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) services in South Wales. We invite you to join our team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board as part of a new, full time NHS initiative. This position stems from a significant investment in the expansion and development of our NET, Gastroenterology and Hepatology services.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR (CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 - £160,951.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the jobSince 2017, NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee has commissioned a service for patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs) for South Wales in partnership with Velindre Cancer Centre and Swansea Bay University Health Board. Serving a population of 2.5 million, it is hosted by Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. As one of the larger centres in the UK, it has been accredited as a European Centre of Excellence since 2022, receiving approximately 200 new patients a year in addition to a large cohort of follow up patients living with the disease. As a Consultant in this role, you'll join the South Wales NET Service and Multidisciplinary Team, a European Centre of Excellence, and a frequent recipient of innovation awards. This unique opportunity allows you to impact a rapidly growing field while serving the increasing demand for neuroendocrine cancer, gastroenterology, and hepatology care, in partnership with colleagues throughout South Wales.
Suitable applicants should be competent (JAG accredited or equivalent) in diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy and hold a CCT in Gastroenterology (and/or hepatology). Although some experience in NETs is desirable, applications from candidates with any luminal gastroenterology or hepatology experience are welcomed. Outside of NETs, we offer opportunities to branch out into a candidate's areas of interest.

Person Specification Qualifications- On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR (Combined Programme) due within 6 months of interview date
- MRCP or equivalent
- Higher Degree e.g. MSc, MD or PhD
- Broad training and experience in Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology
- JAG accreditation or equivalent in diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy
- Experience in managing GI/HPB cancer as part of an MDT
- Experience in managing chronic GI/liver disease and GI symptoms
- Experience in diagnosing and managing neuroendocrine tumours
- Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
- Effective and demonstrable communication skills
- Advanced data analysis, digital skills, or coding
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
- Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent)
- Evidence of active research interests
- Evidence of teaching medical students and resident doctors
- Evidence of effective leadership skills
