Communication Needs Teaching Assistant - SLCN Support

Location: Scarborough

Salary: £88 - £110 per day

Contract: Full Time / Part Time

Start Date: Immediate

GSL Education are recruiting a specialist Communication Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in a Scarborough-based provision.

About the School

This specialist setting supports pupils with significant communication needs, providing a nurturing and structured environment. The school works closely with therapists and support staff to develop pupils' communication, interaction and understanding through tailored interventions.

Responsibilities

Support pupils with SLCN on a 1:1 and small group basis
Use communication strategies to support learning and engagement
Assist with speech and language interventions
Encourage interaction, confidence and independence
Work alongside teaching staff and external professionals

Requirements

Experience supporting pupils with SLCN / communication needs
Knowledge of strategies such as Makaton, PECS or similar desirable
Patient and nurturing approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection; must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
