Totus Neurorehabilitation is a growing community neurorehabilitation service providing brain injury rehabilitation and cognitive assessments throughout the South West of England, South Wales, and East Anglia. There are currently three teams - Bristol, Exeter (expanding along the south coast), and East Anglia.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to join our team in Bristol.
Our client base is predominantly individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury requiring neurorehabilitation in their own homes. We also receive referrals for individuals diagnosed with stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurological conditions, offering a cognitive assessment service to aid diagnosis and supporting education and work recommendations.
As the post covers a large geographical area, you will need a full UK driving licence, access to a car for business purposes, and be able to travel long distances for appointments. The role will also involve part time work from home and you will need a confidential space to conduct online sessions and meetings.
Main responsibilities- Provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, capacity assessments and cognitive assessments in the community, clients' homes or outpatient clinics.
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team (Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists). Develop evidence based treatment plans, including cognitive remediation, mood management and anger management.
- Design and implement individual behaviour modification programmes and positive behavioural support (PBS) plans.
- Deliver psychotherapy to adults with neurological conditions, adapting skills to accommodate cognitive impairments.
- Support and educate families, carers, staff teams and external agencies about acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.
- Attend and participate in all relevant meetings - departmental, patient reviews and discharge meetings - and liaise with multidisciplinary teams and statutory services.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and reports in line with Totus policy and professional guidelines. Summarise complex data and produce concise, clinically relevant reports.
- Comply with all professional and company policies, including Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and confidentiality requirements under ICO guidance.
- Assist in audit and service evaluation activities, present findings to the broader neuroscience community when requested, and contribute to continuous service improvement.
- Engage in professional development: attend BPS/HCPC mandated CPD, seek supervision from senior clinical neuropsychologists, and participate in yearly appraisals.
- Travel extensively for patient home visits, clinic sessions or meetings, using provided travel time for assessment and therapy work.
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS and recognised by the HCPC.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Postgraduate qualification or training in Clinical Neuropsychology (e.g., PGDip or MSc) that allows entry onto the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD in neuropsychological assessment or rehabilitation, meeting BPS and HCPC requirements.
- BPS registration as a Chartered Psychologist.
- Experience of working with adults with neurological conditions during clinical psychology training or equivalent.
- Experience delivering psychological interventions relevant to medical or neuro conditions.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams (MDT).
- Experience in the private healthcare sector, community settings and/or home visits.
- Knowledge of psychological models, theories and interventions applicable to neurorehabilitation.
- Ability to undertake structured cognitive assessments and produce clinical formulations (with supervision).
- High competence in verbal and written communication, including the ability to summarise complex data in clear, concise reports.
- Capacity to manage a clinical caseload under supervision, prioritising work to meet deadlines.
- Competence in IT systems - Word, Excel, Outlook, internet based tools and cloud based record systems.
- Familiarity with the litigation process in personal injury or clinical negligence contexts and awareness of safeguarding processes.
- Understanding of NHS and private rehabilitation service delivery models and the role of education and training in clinical practice.
- Adaptability to diverse cultural contexts and ability to tailor interventions accordingly.
- Willingness to travel across regions for patient home visits or meetings, possessing a valid driving licence.
- Maintain professionalism and compassion in emotionally demanding situations.
- Commitment to team working and reflective practice.
- Emotional resilience when working with trauma, distress or neurocognitive impairments.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development.
- Flexibility to contribute to team training, supervision or public engagement as needed.
- Understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to adapt interventions accordingly.
Title: Clinical Psychologist (Neuropsychology) - 12 month fixed term to cover maternity, with the possibility of extension to a permanent post.
Grade: Band 7 to 8a.
Location/Base: Bristol - primarily from home, with community and clinic visits.
Salary: £47,810 to £59,000 a year (pro rata), commensurate with experience.
