Job Description

Totus Neurorehabilitation is a growing community neurorehabilitation service providing brain injury rehabilitation and cognitive assessments throughout the South West of England, South Wales, and East Anglia. There are currently three teams - Bristol, Exeter (expanding along the south coast), and East Anglia.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to join our team in Bristol.

Our client base is predominantly individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury requiring neurorehabilitation in their own homes. We also receive referrals for individuals diagnosed with stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurological conditions, offering a cognitive assessment service to aid diagnosis and supporting education and work recommendations.

As the post covers a large geographical area, you will need a full UK driving licence, access to a car for business purposes, and be able to travel long distances for appointments. The role will also involve part time work from home and you will need a confidential space to conduct online sessions and meetings.

Main responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, capacity assessments and cognitive assessments in the community, clients' homes or outpatient clinics.
  • Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team (Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists). Develop evidence based treatment plans, including cognitive remediation, mood management and anger management.
  • Design and implement individual behaviour modification programmes and positive behavioural support (PBS) plans.
  • Deliver psychotherapy to adults with neurological conditions, adapting skills to accommodate cognitive impairments.
  • Support and educate families, carers, staff teams and external agencies about acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.
  • Attend and participate in all relevant meetings - departmental, patient reviews and discharge meetings - and liaise with multidisciplinary teams and statutory services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and reports in line with Totus policy and professional guidelines. Summarise complex data and produce concise, clinically relevant reports.
  • Comply with all professional and company policies, including Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and confidentiality requirements under ICO guidance.
  • Assist in audit and service evaluation activities, present findings to the broader neuroscience community when requested, and contribute to continuous service improvement.
  • Engage in professional development: attend BPS/HCPC mandated CPD, seek supervision from senior clinical neuropsychologists, and participate in yearly appraisals.
  • Travel extensively for patient home visits, clinic sessions or meetings, using provided travel time for assessment and therapy work.
Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS and recognised by the HCPC.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Postgraduate qualification or training in Clinical Neuropsychology (e.g., PGDip or MSc) that allows entry onto the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in neuropsychological assessment or rehabilitation, meeting BPS and HCPC requirements.
  • BPS registration as a Chartered Psychologist.
Experience
  • Experience of working with adults with neurological conditions during clinical psychology training or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering psychological interventions relevant to medical or neuro conditions.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams (MDT).
  • Experience in the private healthcare sector, community settings and/or home visits.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of psychological models, theories and interventions applicable to neurorehabilitation.
  • Ability to undertake structured cognitive assessments and produce clinical formulations (with supervision).
  • High competence in verbal and written communication, including the ability to summarise complex data in clear, concise reports.
  • Capacity to manage a clinical caseload under supervision, prioritising work to meet deadlines.
  • Competence in IT systems - Word, Excel, Outlook, internet based tools and cloud based record systems.
  • Familiarity with the litigation process in personal injury or clinical negligence contexts and awareness of safeguarding processes.
  • Understanding of NHS and private rehabilitation service delivery models and the role of education and training in clinical practice.
  • Adaptability to diverse cultural contexts and ability to tailor interventions accordingly.
  • Willingness to travel across regions for patient home visits or meetings, possessing a valid driving licence.
Personal Qualities
  • Maintain professionalism and compassion in emotionally demanding situations.
  • Commitment to team working and reflective practice.
  • Emotional resilience when working with trauma, distress or neurocognitive impairments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development.
  • Flexibility to contribute to team training, supervision or public engagement as needed.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to adapt interventions accordingly.
