The National Women's and Infants Health Programme aims to enhance and expand endometriosis services in Ireland. The CNS is a highly skilled practitioner responsible for the coordination and delivery of care for patients with endometriosis, including assessment, diagnosis support, treatment planning, education, and long term management. The CNS acts as a liaison between patients, multidisciplinary teams, and external support services, contributing to service development, research, and clinical leadership.
Clinical Care- Provide specialist nursing assessment and management for patients with suspected or confirmed endometriosis.
- Support patients through diagnostic pathways, treatment options (medical and surgical), and ongoing symptom management.
- Develop individualized care plans, working closely with gynaecologists, pain specialists, physiotherapists, and psychologists.
- Offer expert advice on hormonal treatments, fertility concerns, and lifestyle modifications.
- Deliver nurse led clinics and telephone consultations to support patient follow up and education.
- Provide evidence based education to patients and their families on the nature and management of endometriosis.
- Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring that their concerns are heard and addressed appropriately.
- Facilitate patient support groups and contribute to the development of patient information materials.
- Serve as a role model and resource for nursing and allied health professionals regarding endometriosis care.
- Lead audits and quality improvement initiatives within the service.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of clinical guidelines and contribute to local guideline development.
- Deliver education and training sessions to staff and students on endometriosis.
- Participate in the planning and evaluation of endometriosis services.
- Contribute to clinical research, data collection, and service audits.
- Collaborate in the development of multidisciplinary care pathways and patient centred innovations.
- Registered in the General Division of the active Register held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
- Minimum of 1 year post registration full time experience or equivalent aggregate experience in the relevant division.
- Minimum of 1 year experience or equivalent aggregate in the specialist area of care to which they are applying.
- Third level qualification at Level 9 or higher relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS).
- Demonstrated capacity to discharge the functions of the role and evidence of continuing learning and professional development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven evidence in managing complex or chronic conditions; specialist training or significant experience in women's health.
- Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE via the Patient Safety Assurance Certificate.
- Registered in the General Division of the active Register held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or entitled to be so registered.
- Alternative pathways for exceptional circumstances (other register division, additional experience, or required postgraduate education).
- Essential and applicable to both pathways: capacity to discharge role functions, excellent communication, continuing professional development, evidence in managing complex or chronic conditions, specialist training in women's health, annual registration confirmation.
- Part time: 19.5 hours per week, permanent and pensionable.
- Remuneration: Clinical Nurse Specialist €62,078 to €78,443; Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist €57,208 to €67,372 (increments applicable as per salary scale).
- Probation: Initially 6 months, extendable by 3 months if necessary.
- Annual leave: days pro rata plus 10 bank holidays.
- Sick leave: Paid salary during illness as per Department of Health & Children arrangements.
- Termination: Two months' notice from either side; management may exercise rights for failure to perform or misconduct.
- Reporting: To CNM3 of Women's Health Services; professional accountability to the Director of Nursing.
- Maintain patient focused care, privacy, dignity, and evidence based practice.
- Adhere to scope of practice framework, hospital policies, and NMBI guidelines.
- Comply with health, safety, hygiene, and infection control policies.
- Support confidentiality, data protection, and risk management programmes.
- Participate in education, audits, research, and continuous improvement activities.
