Lead Age Group Coach

Wycombe District Swimming Club (WDSC), based in Buckinghamshire, is looking for a Lead Age Group Coach to join our team. The role includes potential duties as Assistant Head Age Group Coach.

Contract & Minimum Qualifications

Contract Type: Full time employed contract.

Minimum Qualification: UKCC Level 2 Coaching or equivalent. Either the National Rescue Test for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) or the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

Responsible to: Head Age Group Coach (and the Head Coach and Programme Manager).

About the Club

As the leading Club programme with Swim England Performance Centre status, WDSC is reigning County Champions, Southeast Regional Champions, and regularly features in the National Arena League Cup Final. The club offers a wide programme through a "one team" approach, from performance/competitive swimming and masters swimmers to participation squads and an emerging Water Polo squad. With more than 750 active members, WDSC operates from an 8 50m pool in Wycombe.

About the Role

Working collaboratively with Head Age Group Coach Joe Evans, you will lead the planning, coaching and competition duties for our Age Group One Squad (AG1) and cooperate with GB and Olympic level Head Coach Kevin Brooks and the performance programme. The role includes mentoring and support from a successful club and performance coaching team.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the programme for the Age Group One Squad, competing at County, Regional, and sometimes National level.
  • Develop a periodised annual training programme aligned with the club's fixture calendar.
  • Assist the Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach in coaching the club's performance squads.
  • Collaborate with the coaching team to deliver a structured, progressive and unified competitive pathway of training and fixtures.
  • Support coaching of other squads and cover absences as required.
  • Contribute to the identification, selection and development of league teams, including National Arena League teams.
  • Take a leadership role in the National Junior League team.
  • Support the Head of Athletic Development and Physical Preparation Coach with land based sessions under the Head Coach's direction.
  • Regularly evaluate swimmer improvement and communicate with swimmers and parents about development and progress.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the swimming and coaching programme to meet club aims at all levels.
Person Specification
  • Coaching experience in a club environment.
  • Hold UKCC Level 2 Coaching/Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate.
  • Experience coaching swimmers to County and Regional levels with annual training plans.
  • Understanding of Youth Athletic Development and Long Term Athlete Development Models.
  • Experience working in a collaborative coaching team.
  • Team player, accountable, ethical, committed to diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in line with the position.
  • Desire to add value to the programme and to learn and develop within the team environment.
