Role OverviewThis is an exciting opportunity for a clinical nurse specialist who is a nurse prescriber to showcase their clinical skills and leadership across two mental health teams within Health and Justice, HMP Haverigg CAT D and HMP Deerbolt CAT C male prisons.
Vetting RequirementsThe role is subject to Prison Vetting. Successful candidates must pass this before commencing employment. This includes a thorough review of personal information, a criminal record check (both spent and unspent), a review of financial standing, and social media checks. Vetting checks may extend to family members and associates. Applicants must have resided in the UK for 3 years at the point of application. Failure to meet this criterion may result in rejection.
Main DutiesThe main duty of the job is to be the clinical lead for the mental health teams, leading on professional development and ensuring the delivery of robust evidence based practice.
The successful candidate will hold a caseload of patients with complex needs, providing nurse led diagnosis and treatment planning. Post holder will be an NMP (independent prescriber).
About UsThe services have a well established, multi skilled mental health team. The nurse led team consists of psychological well being practitioners, health and well being coaches, mental health nurses, psychologists, and counsellors.

- Analyse information, identify problems, develop solutions, and make recommendations or decisions
- Use information systems efficiently and plan and organize activities effectively
- Develop and implement policies and/or services
- Undertake research, audit and governance, providing assurance to others
- Manage others, including planning and allocation of work, training and development
- Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD / RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
- Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving
- Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
- Professional clinical knowledge and experience acquired through a degree (or equivalent post registration study), supplemented by specialist training, experience, short courses at level 7
- Equivalent significant clinical experience such as working (minimum of 2 years) as a band 6 (or above) in a relevant clinical area, together with evidence of relevant CPD to Level 7 or equivalent
- NMP (independent prescriber)
- Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field
- Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours
- Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice
- Working collaboratively with service users, their families and carers
- Working in a multi disciplinary team
- Quality improvement activities
- Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
- Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
- Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
- Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
- Clinical Governance and its application in practice
- Working knowledge of clinical medicines management
- Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area)
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
