Job Description
Case Worker - Cork Maternity Cover

Full time - 35 hours per week, across 7 days

Fixed Term Maternity Cover Contract (ending Dec 2026 with likelihood of extension)

Salary - €39,872.09 per annum

Location - Cork, Ireland

Role

To be a member of a multi disciplined team using holistic approaches. Working within the principle of harm minimisation where residents receive a high degree of care, support and dignity. Depaul has a commitment to service user participation and to empowering residents to manage their own lives.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the practical needs of service users are met (providing food, laundry, clean bedding, etc.) while ensuring a safe and secure environment in a high standard service.
  • Assess the needs of service users and refer them to appropriate agencies.
  • Provide key working to a number of residents, recording this work, advocating for them and updating line manager and the team on progress.
  • Liase with external agencies, health boards and county councils.
  • Ensure all quality assurance policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff in providing health care to service users.
  • Team player: take role in handovers, supervise volunteers and support team members in ensuring decision-making is consistent.
  • Participate in supervision with line manager and annual appraisals and identify professional development within role.
  • Ensure all Depaul policies and procedures are adhered to, particularly Health and Safety, Code of Conduct and Confidentiality.
  • At all times undertake role in a professional manner maintaining a high quality standard in line with Depaul values and ethos.

Person Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years paid experience in a social care field, desirably in a residential setting (essential).
  • Social Studies or Case Management Accredited Qualification.
  • Experience and understanding of the complexities involved in working with service users experiencing intimate partner violence.
  • Good working knowledge of risk assessment processes and systems (e.g., S/U Risk assessment, Lone Working, Activity Risk Assessments).
  • Understanding of harm reduction and low threshold working.
  • Understanding of factors leading to homelessness and related support needs.
  • Experience with needs assessment, keyworking and support planning for people with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of statutory and voluntary sector resources available to homeless people.
  • Understanding the importance of Health and Safety in a residential setting.
  • Good communicator and computer literate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Depaul vision, mission and values.
  • Proficient use of IT, including professional email.
  • Respect for Depaul values and beliefs.

  • Annual Leave: 25 days per year (up to 3 years of service), 27 days per year (3-5 years), 30 days per year (over 5 years).
  • 10 public holidays each year, with Good Friday as discretionary day.
  • Day off and day pay for Christmas Day, St. Stephen's Day, and New Year's Day for shift workers; paid day off on public holidays for non shift workers.
  • Shift workers expected to work on public holidays and receive an additional day of annual leave in lieu.
  • Non rostered employees may be entitled to one-fifth of the normal weekly rate of remuneration for public holidays.
