Job Description
School Caretaker at Hurley Primary School

Location: Hurley Primary School, Heanley Lane, Hurley, Warwickshire CV9 2HY
Start Date: July 2026
Salary £25,583 - £25,989 per annum pro rata.
Hours: 22.5 - 25 hours per week (open to negotiation)
Actual salary - 22.5 hours £15,557 - £15,804 per annum or 25 hours - £17,285-£17,560 per annum
Schedule: Monday to Friday, split shift e.g. 6:30-10:00am and 5:00-6:00pm (hours open to negotiation with successful applicant)
Contract: Permanent, full-year position (not term-time only)
Holiday: 21 days + bank holidays (rising with service)

What You'll Be Doing

Your role will be varied and rewarding, helping ensure the smooth daily running of the school.

Key responsibilities include Site Security & Safety
  • Open and lock up the school premises each day
  • Act as a keyholder, responding to alarm callouts
  • Carry out regular checks to ensure the site is safe, secure, and hazard-free
  • Support fire safety procedures and emergency access
Maintenance & Repairs
  • Conduct minor maintenance (e.g. basic repairs, painting)
  • Monitor the condition of the building and site, reporting issues as needed
  • Supervise contractors and check completed workEnsure heating and hot water systems operate effectively
Cleaning & Hygiene
  • Supervise cleaning staff and clean specific areas of the school
  • Carry out regular checks and manage supplies of cleaning materials
  • Ensure hall floor is treated and polished at regular intervals
Grounds & External Areas
  • Keep paths and play areas clean and safe (e.g. clear litter, manage snow/flood access, winter gritting)
  • Check drains and gutters regularly
  • Basic garden maintenance such as cutting back foliage and weeding
Logistics & Support
  • Receive and manage deliveries and stock
  • Move furniture/equipment as needed
  • Support school lettings and events outside normal hours
What we're looking for
  • Takes pride in keeping things clean, safe and in good order
  • Is proactive and can work independently, but also enjoys being part of a team
  • Is confident with practical tasks, tools and minor repairs
  • Has good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Brings a friendly, can do attitude to their work

Experience in a similar role is helpful but not essential-training will be provided.

  • Be physically fit and able to carry out a variety of tasks
