Job overview

This role is for an individual wanting further their career in a Business Intelligence (BI) Team as part of the wider Digital Team at the heart of a large NHS organisation covering 999, 111 and Patient Transfer Services to over 5 million households.

As part of a busy BI team, you will be responsible for analysis, interpretation, and submission of focused information to support the Trust in delivering its goals and priorities for operational services and the corporate business function.

The main focus of this role is to provide high level intelligence to support the senior analysts and the wider service. Additionally, the post has responsibility for developing and maintaining a range of reports required by the service or externally (e.g. Contract Reports, National Returns), mainly through PowerBI.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide analytical information or insight based on complex, sensitive or contentious information in a format to stakeholders that are not from an analytical environment.
  • Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to explain and present reports to a wide-ranging audience using a variety of techniques.
  • Work closely with the Senior Analysts as part of the wider BI team to ensure the delivery of day-to-day work.
  • Adopt best practices for data quality management and use an analytical approach to management information. Highlight and offer advice on correcting any data anomalies as required when identified through analysis of data.
  • Provide analysis, insight and judgements based on complex and sensitive information using various statistical or numerical techniques. Keep abreast and incorporate any new methods to enrich analytical outputs.
  • To liaise with Trust BI users to improve the availability, focus and use of Business Intelligence.
  • Experience of building and managing DataMarts using SQL Server Products would be advantageous and/or Data Science techniques
  • Experience of Building and Managing Reports using PowerBI

Person specification
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, with experience of making use of their wider functionality i.e. Microsoft Office Excel
  • Experience of using Business Intelligence technologies e.g. Microsoft PowerBI
  • Experience and knowledge of using SQL and other database tools with ability to query datasets with the use of Select, Joins, Grouping and Sub Queries
  • Ability to interpret results from the analysis, apply the results to the given problem, suggest conclusions to be drawn and offer recommendations where appropriate
  • Ability to design and gather specification requirements with the end user and understand the success criteria.
  • Knowledge of the design and use of MI systems and reports.
  • Understanding of the NHS and or Ambulance Services
