Back End Developer Java

Job Title: Senior Back End Developer/Engineer - Java
Location: Basildon Essex - would require someone to drive to office 4x a week - 1 day remote
Salary/Rate: £500-£520 a day
Start Date: April
Job Type: Contract 9 months

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to support the development of scalable, secure Back End systems within a major automotive financial services programme.

This role will focus on designing and delivering Back End services, supporting architectural decisions, and collaborating with engineering teams across Front End, DevOps, and cloud platforms. You will play a key role in ensuring high-quality code, strong engineering practices, and reliable Back End solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable Back End services

• Lead technical design discussions and code reviews

• Support Back End architecture and engineering best practices

• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments

• Mentor junior engineers and support delivery of complex systems

Required Skills

• An experienced Back End engineering experience

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot and Python would be desirable

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Strong knowledge of Git/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines

• Experience with TDD/BDD practices

• Familiarity with tools such as JUnit, SonarQube, Checkmarx, FOSSA, or similar

Desirable

• Experience in automotive finance or consumer lending

• Exposure to regulated financial environments (FCA/PRA)
