CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time
DEPARTMENT: BBC Workplace
LOCATION: Salford - Hybrid (minimum 3 days per week in the office and a requirement to visit specified regional sites).
SALARY RANGE: £65,000 - £73,000pa depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As an Area Estates & Facilities Manager you'll play a key role in the operational management of a regional estate, managing suppliers and stakeholders.

This is a hands on, fast paced role where no two days are the same. You'll work closely with internal and external stakeholders, service providers, and contractors to ensure our estate is safe, sustainable, and fit for purpose.

In addition to ensuring BBC standards are adhered to and exemplify our BBC Values enabling colleagues to do their best work to serve all audiences, you will also manage property change projects delivering thoughtfully designed, fresh and vibrant workplace for staff to work in and for audiences to visit. Additionally, you will ensure BBC buildings and sites are safe, secure, sustainable and on air.

BBC Workplace operates the BBC's UK estate, providing facilities management services and managing property and construction projects so to ensure the organisation's physical workplaces are safe, well maintained, cost effective, and suitable for employees' needs so people can work productively, as a team we play a major role in ensuring the BBC stays on air!

Our ambition is to operate inspiring places for people to collaborate, broadcast, create and perform whilst maximising the use of new and more efficient buildings, and reducing the size and cost of the BBC estate. We view the BBC from a unique and data driven perspective that enables us to deliver savings through property and people focused initiatives back into programme making.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Accountable for the service providers delivering estate services in line with contract specification and Service Level Agreements to each site.
  • Manage estates and facility management services to ensure the efficient day to day operation of the BBC's estate to a high and professional standard ensuring suppliers adhere to BBC policies and procedures.
  • As part of a wider estate management team, contribute to the future planning of improvements for the facility, reviewing requests and proposals from end users.
  • Manage operating costs and budgets for the facility, including all Workplace costs and approval of expenditure of allocated budget.
  • To work closely with the BBC Health and Safety team, to identify and manage health and safety issues relating to on site works, contractors and the building environment.
  • Continually look for cost effective improvements with regards to estate management and Workplace services.
  • Undertake reviews of services provided to ensure they are in line with contract specification, addressing any performance issues where necessary.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Proven Facilities Manager capable of managing multi site estates and experience of running sites sensitive to business continuity issues.
  • Strong track record of delivery, securing best value and ensuring high standards from third party suppliers.
  • Health and safety qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH.
  • Demonstrable delivery focus, with a positive and creative approach to change, dealing effectively with complexity, uncertainty and ambiguity. You will be highly organised, able to prioritise tasks and deal with business critical issues as well as conflicting demands.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop, maintain and enhance collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
DESIRABLE
  • BIFM membership.
  • Health and safety qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically, building positive relationships while identifying practical solutions to challenges.
  • Effective communicator, capable of writing articles and reports and of managing and manipulating data. This will be supported by strong computer literacy, able to use common computer packages such as Microsoft word, excel etc.
