Animal Keeper

About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Capel Manor College and we are now seeking to appoint an Animal Keeper to join our animal management team.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day routine care of the College's animal stock including cleaning of accommodation, provision of feed, water, bedding, nesting material and daily health checks. The successful candidate will be an expert in animal care and will implement the highest industry standards of animal husbandry and welfare. They will also maintain and upgrade animal facilities, keep accurate records, and deliver interactive enclosure encounters and experiences to visitors. In addition, they will support Practical Instructors and Lecturers by ensuring relevant resources such as animals and equipment are readily available for learning.

Weekend and bank holiday working is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily routine care of animal stock (cleaning, feeding, watering, bedding, nesting material, health checks).
• Maintain and upgrade animal facilities and record keeping for the assigned area.
• Deliver interactive enclosure encounters and visitor experiences.
• Support Practical Instructors and Lecturers with resources and facilities.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification or higher in an animal care discipline.
• Experience working with a range of animal species.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Awareness of Health and Safety issues and a strong commitment to animal care and welfare.
