Job Description

Hays Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and popular primary school in the Wigan area to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Year 2 Teacher for a 2-term cover starting in September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established school with a strong sense of community, supportive leadership, and a collaborative teaching environment. This could be extended to the full academic year if it fits with the right teacher.

Your new role

As a Year 2 Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and creative lessons aligned with the Key Stage 1 curriculum, with a strong focus on early reading, phonics, and pupil development. You will need to work closely with other teachers over the 2-terms and make sure to prepare these children for transitioning into Key Stage 2.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the KS1 national curriculum
  • Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress
  • Create a positive, inclusive and engaging classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, teaching assistants, and parents
What you'll need to succeed
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching in Key Stage 1 or Lower Key Stage 2
  • Strong understanding of phonics and early literacy development
  • The ability to engage and inspire young learners
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to teaching
