Role Overview

The Workplace Engineer is responsible for delivering technical execution across domain and identity migrations, device management, modern workplace workloads, and application remediation. This role ensures a smooth transition of users, devices, and applications by performing deep technical configuration, troubleshooting, and validation across hybrid Microsoft environments.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on engineering expertise in Microsoft 365, Intune, Azure AD/Entra ID, and identity-dependent applications, combined with the ability to work in complex project delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Execution of Domain & Identity Migration

• Execute technical tasks required for domain cutovers, including domain join updates, policy transitions, and MDM/MAM targeting.
• Support identity and authentication platform changes, including:
  • Hybrid directory integration and domain alignment
  • Federation updates and protocol transitions (SAML/OAuth)
  • Conditional Access readiness and configuration
  • Service account and certificate transitions
• Validate domain migration readiness through hands-on testing of:
  • Devices and user profiles
  • Authentication flows and access policies
  • Application behavior across hybrid environments

2. Device Management & Endpoint Configuration

• Configure, deploy, and validate:
  • Device configuration and compliance policies
  • Application deployments (packaged and web-based)
  • Security baselines, custom profiles, and configuration scripts
• Support site-level device readiness (network, imaging, peripherals).
• Provide quality control and oversight over execution by external delivery partners.

3. Modern Workplace Workload Engineering

• Execute configuration and readiness tasks for:
  • Mailbox preparation, DNS updates, routing changes
  • Collaboration platform (Teams, SharePoint) configuration and validation
  • OneDrive setup and migration readiness
  • SharePoint permission alignment
• Support and operate cross-tenant migration tooling in coordination with architecture teams.

4. Application Remediation Technical Support

• Validate technical remediation steps and troubleshoot application dependencies.
• Execute:
  • Authentication method updates
  • Certificate changes
  • Endpoint configuration modifications
• Conduct functional testing with application owners.
• Provide detailed remediation documentation, logs, traces, and debugging insights.

5. Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

• Perform structured troubleshooting across:
  • Identity/authentication flows
  • Device compliance and policy conflicts
  • Autopilot deployment issues
  • Collaboration platform configuration
  • Conditional Access blockages
• Produce clear root-cause analysis and unblock migration waves.

6. Documentation & Quality Control

• Maintain engineering documentation for:
  • Device policies and assignments
  • Deployment processes and inventories
  • Messaging and collaboration configuration updates
  • Cutover scripts, runbooks, and validation checklists
• Ensure compliance with architectural and security governance.

7. Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with identity, infrastructure, and workplace architects to ensure alignment on sequencing and dependencies.
• Collaborate with partner teams enabling scaled execution.
• Communicate technical updates, risks, and blockers clearly and proactively.

Required Qualifications

Technical Experience

• 5+ years hands-on experience with:
  • Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, Windows life cycle management
  • Azure AD/Entra ID in hybrid identity environments
  • Office 365 workloads (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams)
  • PowerShell Scripting and automation
• Strong troubleshooting skills across:
  • Authentication
  • Device compliance
  • Deployment failures
  • Access control and policy evaluation
• Solid understanding of application identity dependencies and domain-related technical impacts.

Project Delivery Alignment

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise migrations such as:
  • Domain consolidations
  • Tenant-to-tenant migrations
  • Endpoint modernization initiatives
• Ability to execute engineering work based on architectural guidance.
• Experience coordinating with external service providers.

Soft Skills

• Excellent problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Detail-oriented, structured approach to testing and documentation.
• Strong communication skills with ability to translate technical information for stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with organizational transitions or large-scale tenant consolidation programs.
• Familiarity with endpoint analytics, telemetry platforms, API-based automation, or Scripting.
• Understanding of:
  • Corporate networking fundamentals
  • DNS, certificates, connectivity dependencies
  • Device-to-cloud identity flows
