Accountable to: Ward Sister

Reports to: Ward Manager

Job Purpose: The post holder will work as an integral part of the clinical ward/area team and be responsible for the coordination of all patient facilities/services in the ward area, ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure and support delivery of cleaning, catering and minor maintenance.
  • Cooperate with colleagues, perform additional duties as directed by the ward clinical team.
  • Greet patients and visitors and promote good relationships.
  • Communicate effectively with ward team, patients and carers.
  • Coordinate special dietary requirements and ensure patients have access to menu information.
  • Liaise with maintenance staff to ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Handle individual patient requests and update notice boards.
  • Maintain written patient information up to date.
  • Provide local induction and guidance to ward-based volunteers.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour and communication.
  • Act as point of contact for ward volunteers.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in cleaning or housekeeping in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of infection control and health & safety practices.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Responsibility for maintaining confidentiality of patient information.

Requires compliance with Trust codes of conduct, confidentiality, records management, health and safety, infection control and non-smoking policy. Compliance with child and vulnerable adult safeguarding procedures is mandatory.
