About WHISC

WHISC (Women's Health Information & Support Centre) is a well-established charity based in Liverpool, dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women in the local community. The Volunteering for Health Fund is an LCVS Funded project. We are seeking an experienced, passionate Volunteer Coordinator to provide the support needed to recruit, train, deploy and manage a team of volunteers who will support excluded and underserved women to access health services.

  • Salary £31,537 FTE (pro rata for 18 hours per week) (£16,219 pa)
  • Contract: Fixed-term contract to 31.4.2027
Brief Role Overview

To deliver and grow WHISC's volunteering offer funded through the LCVS Volunteering for Health Fund, providing the infrastructure and support needed for trained volunteers to help women, including excluded and underserved women understand health information, navigate NHS and VCFSE services, and access care (including where digital health provision creates barriers). Volunteers may also go on to provide "Listening Ear" 1:1 support in a warm, welcoming women-centred setting.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Volunteer programme coordination: recruit, onboard and support volunteers, coordinate safe recruitment (applications, references, DBS), match volunteers to roles and manage rotas/pathways.
  • Training, supervision and wellbeing: deliver/coordinate induction and a training programme (safeguarding, confidentiality, trauma-informed practice, boundaries, women's health, ACEs, and practical health navigation/health literacy); provide regular one-to-ones, peer support and debriefing; promote volunteer recognition, retention and progression routes.
  • Service delivery, outreach and partnerships: enable volunteers to provide practical non-clinical, health navigation and health literacy support; coordinate women-only groups and information sessions; plan outreach across Liverpool prioritising deprived and underserved areas; develop and maintain partnerships with NHS and VCFSE organisations to widen access routes (primary, secondary and hospital services).
  • Monitoring and reporting: track volunteer numbers/hours and beneficiary reach; gather feedback and case studies; maintain supervision and training records; produce monthly coordinator reports and contribute to quarterly/final funder reporting and evaluation.
  • Safeguarding, confidentiality and safe practice: follow WHISC safeguarding procedures and elevate concerns; ensure volunteers understand confidentiality, data protection, boundaries and safe working practices; embed trauma-informed, women-centred practice in all activity.
