The Analytics & Consulting team is part of Argus Media - the largest independent energy publisher in the world. We provide clients with customised analysis, research, data and commentary services on international energy markets. Our work is firmly focused on markets - their structure, logistics and economics. Analytics & Consulting draws on Argus' key strengths - energy markets expertise, global networks and proprietary databases - in order to deliver real client value.

The team has two divisions. Analytics produces a range of subscription-based forecasting products, which provide an outlook for market fundamentals and price over the short and long term, for many of the commodities Argus covers. The Consulting side undertakes tailor-made commissioned assignments for a wide variety of clients and across various sectors including oil & gas, chemicals, fertilizers, hydrogen, biofuels and energy transition solutions.

What we're looking for

The Analytics part of the business has grown substantially over recent years, becoming a large portfolio that delivers significant revenue to the business, enjoying growth of 20%+ for successive years. We believe there is more to come, through enhancement of existing services and development of new products. There is also opportunity to look at new delivery channels and extend the use of Data Science and AI to add value for customers.

To support the future growth of the portfolio, we are now looking for someone who can act as the overall lead for these services, working with individual teams to drive forward our strategy, prioritise opportunities and provide direction and support to implementation. The role will work with other functions to ensure there is consistency in approach, fostering an environment in which innovation can flourish.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for performance and play a key role in promoting the products internally and externally. They will also support Argus in building its brand and commercial presence in the market, working alongside other functions of the business to achieve these aims.

This is a senior level role and will report directly to the Global Head of Analytics & Consulting , with a team of 7-8 direct reports and a total team of approx. 60 globally.

What will you be doing

  • Owns strategic direction for the portfolio, working with sector leadership and sales to define and deliver product roadmap for Analytics' subscription services
  • Responsible for financial performance of portfolio. Identifies and drives activity to support revenue growth
  • Facilitates definition of strategies for individual Analytics sector teams, in association with leadership of those teams and relevant senior stakeholders
  • Works with VP, Methodology to set direction for product functionality, approach and analysis techniques employed, looking to standardise across sectors where possible
  • Challenges individual Analytics teams to identify improvements to product and user experience
  • Works with teams outside of Consulting to ensure client feedback is collected and acted upon, to keep products at the forefront of innovation and fully meet customer requirements
  • Works with Project Consulting colleagues to identify opportunities to further develop their modelling
  • Supports Analytics sector teams in working with Data Science and Technology, around innovation and product improvement
  • Supports individual team leads in day to day management of their function. Works with Argus Leadership to procure, prioritise and allocate resource
  • Ensures there are adequate feedback loops in place to ensure subscription teams benefit from project experience and vice versa

What we're looking for in you

  • Graduate/Masters degree from a top tier university
  • Very strong understanding of commodity forecasting, gained through 15+ years in the industry. Deep expertise in at least one of the commodity areas covered by Argus
  • Solid commercial focus, with experience of designing and delivering analysis services that fully meet the requirements of customers
  • Capable of representing Argus at very senior levels, confident speaking across the portfolio
  • Intellectually curious and able to demonstrate structured problem solving and analytical skills
  • Highly numerate. Experience of analysing data quickly and meticulously, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy focus. Exceptional focus on quality
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial in approach, highly motivated and willing to contribute to the growth of Argus Consulting Services and the wider business
