Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Vehicle Safety Test Engineer to join our team on a contract basis, working within a state-of-the-art Vehicle Safety Test Laboratory (VSTL). This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for precision testing, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement in vehicle safety systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and prepare test rigs and components to specification.
  • Operate rig control and data acquisition systems to ensure accurate test conditions.
  • Perform inspections, diagnose issues, and carry out maintenance on test rigs.
  • Document test processes and results, including DART reports, logs, and issue tracking.
  • Coordinate fixture design and manufacturing with internal teams.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant quality, environmental, and safety standards (IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 17025).
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of laboratory technologies and testing methodologies.


Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely and high-quality completion of tests and reports.
  • Accurate and prompt test logging.
  • Adherence to Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) schedules.


Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience in test facility operations and sample preparation.
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems and closed-loop control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety practices (e.g., Risk Assessments, COSHH).
  • Knowledge of instrumentation calibration processes.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in using standard computer applications.


Qualifications

  • Minimum: Engineering Apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
