The position offers exposure to complex VAT matters including corporate transactions, property, partial exemption, international supply chains and wider indirect tax advisory work.

You'll work closely with highly experienced tax professionals, take ownership of client assignments and develop strong relationships with businesses and professional advisers.

The firm is open to candidates at Assistant Manager or Manager level, depending on experience, and offers an excellent platform for someone looking to develop their technical expertise and progress within a specialist advisory environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Deliver VAT advisory and compliance services to a varied portfolio of clients across different industries.
  • Provide technical advice on complex VAT matters, identifying risks, opportunities and commercially practical solutions.
  • Support transaction-related VAT assignments, including acquisitions, disposals, tax due diligence, restructuring and refinancing.
  • Advise on property-related VAT matters, including commercial and residential property transactions, options to tax and VAT recovery.
  • Assist clients with partial exemption calculations, methodologies, input tax recovery and Capital Goods Scheme considerations.
  • Provide advice on cross-border VAT, international supply chains, imports and VAT registration requirements.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, advisory letters and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise directly with clients, HMRC and other professional advisers, explaining technical matters clearly and practically.
  • Work alongside other tax specialists on complex assignments requiring input from multiple service lines.
  • Support the development of junior colleagues and contribute to business development activities where appropriate.

Experience and qualifications

  • CTA, ACA, ACCA, ATT or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Previous experience in VAT or indirect tax advisory and/or compliance, gained within accountancy practice, HMRC or industry.
  • Strong understanding of UK VAT legislation and its practical application.
  • Experience providing technical VAT advice and managing relationships with clients or internal stakeholders.
  • Exposure to areas such as property VAT, partial exemption, corporate transactions or international VAT would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters in a clear and commercial manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines.
  • A proactive approach, strong commercial awareness and an interest in developing specialist VAT advisory expertise.

Applications are welcomed from existing VAT Managers as well as ambitious Assistant Managers looking to take the next step in their careers.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary of £50,000-£70,000 depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working, with a combination of home and office-based working.
  • Opportunity to participate in a staff equity reward scheme.
  • Generous wider benefits package, including voluntary benefit options.
  • Strong emphasis on work-life balance and flexible working.
  • Exposure to high-quality, technically challenging VAT advisory work.
  • Direct support and mentoring from highly experienced indirect tax specialists.
  • Opportunity to work alongside specialists across a broad range of tax disciplines.
  • Excellent professional development and long-term career progression opportunities.
  • Chance to play an important role in the continued growth of an expanding independent tax advisory business.

Company culture

This opportunity is with a highly regarded independent tax advisory firm that has experienced significant growth and continues to expand its specialist services across the UK.

The firm offers a collaborative and supportive working environment, bringing together experienced tax professionals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, commercially focused advice.

Unlike some larger organisations, the structure allows individuals to take on meaningful responsibility, develop direct client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the business.
