Job Description

UCLH is seeking a Uro-Oncology Consultant with specialist interest in focal therapy. This post will include care for Uro-Oncology patients, focused on patients with prostate cancer. Cross-site working across NCEL sites will be required to support delivery of services across the network, which may involve clinics and/or theatre lists at other NCEL sites, such as the Whittington, Barking, Havering & Redbridge NHS Trust or Barts Health NHS Trust. The post holder will have a specialist interest and clinical expertise in the management of prostate cancer and experience in performing focal therapy.

Main duties of the job
  • To ensure that services are responsive to the needs of patients and other service users and their families.
  • Where appropriate, to facilitate working arrangements between subspecialty teams within the service.
  • To meet regularly with key members of the multidisciplinary team and support effective multidisciplinary team working.
  • To work closely with the DCD and management team to respond to and meet external standards relevant to the Service.
  • To support the college tutor and educational supervisor in junior medical staff issues training and performance.
  • To support the DCD, implement and monitor compliance plans to ensure that all junior medical staff within the Service are compliant with legal requirements.
  • To attend meetings as appropriate with the Divisional Clinical Director and management team.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Lead and management team, to support the local implementation of the Trust objectives within the Division.
  • With the Divisional Clinical Director and management team, to support the service planning process for the Service and to ensure it meets its contractual and other performance requirements, e.g. waiting list targets, winter pressures and Cancer waiting times.
  • To be an active and supportive member within the Division, contributing to shared learning.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Eligible for full UK GMC Registration and possess FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty, or at the time of interview within 6 months of expected date of CCT. NB: Non UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register in the relevant specialty by date of appointment.
  • Clinical knowledge commensurate with post CCT/fellowship training
  • The ability to undertake and manage clinical audits including supervision of junior staff.
  • Use of databases and hospital systems (PAS/EPR/CDR/PACS) to a competent level
  • Higher Academic degree
Experience
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Capacity to use and develop a wide range of theoretical approaches
  • Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research leading to publication
  • Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of its aims and objectives
  • Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context
Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive training in Urological surgery
  • Expert knowledge in the diagnosis of prostate cancer
  • Proven ability to teach in clinical settings
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and post graduate levels
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibilities as appropriate and supervise staff
  • Ability, enthusiasm and commitment to teach in a clinical setting
  • Ability to engage/implement NHS strategy e.g. service redesign, achieve cancer access standards
  • Demonstrable expertise in all focal prostate surgery modalities (HIFU, Nano knife & Cryotherapy)
