University Teacher in Business Analytics

The University of Sheffield is seeking an additional team member to deliver the new MSc in Business Analytics, launching September 2026, and to support existing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Overview

The role involves contributing to the development and delivery of business analytics teaching, including modules on mathematical modelling, data visualisation, programming (Python) and database management, within the Operations Management and Decision Sciences (OMDS) Subject Group.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Develop and deliver business analytics teaching within the School's taught programmes, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity and alignment with the University's Education Strategy Delivery Plan.
• Improve and enhance the student experience and outcomes through programme delivery based on a detailed understanding of student needs and professional requirements.
• Act ethically in all aspects of the role and serve as a role model for students.
• Undertake scholarship activities in business analytics education that positively impact student outcomes and are influential at national/international levels.
• Engage in recruitment and outreach activities, including events outside standard working hours such as Open Days.
• Support core administrative areas, such as student advising and mentoring, to aid the delivery of OMDS programmes.
• Provide effective line management where required.
• Represent the institution with external stakeholders to foster collaboration at regional or national levels.
• Work according to University quality assurance processes and other regulatory frameworks.
• Actively contribute to the collective interests and values of the University through inclusive, collaborative working.
• Make a full and active contribution to the principles of Sheffield Academic: excellence in applied teaching, research and scholarly pursuits that benefit the subject area and the University overall.
• Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Person Specification

• A PhD (or equivalent relevant experience) in a relevant subject - Essential - Application stage
• Experience of teaching business analytics, or an associated discipline, in a Higher Education environment - Essential - Application and Interview stage
• Teaching qualification such as FHEA, PGCert Higher Education or evidence of working towards - Essential - Application stage
• Experience of working and communicating with a team of staff - Essential - Application and Interview stage
• Experience of developing strong working relationships with partners within and external to Higher Education - Essential - Application and Interview stage
• Ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving - Essential - Application and Interview stage
• Experience of working independently on project activities - Essential - Application and Interview stage
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and effective IT skills - Essential - Application and Interview stage
