Job Description

At the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor in the field of Construction Process and Methods with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of June 2026. This is a professorship regulated by 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG). The position as professor for Construction Process and Methods has been allocated in TU Wien's development plan to the following TU Focal Area(s) of Research: Computational Science & Engineering und Energy and Environment. The Professor of Construction Process Engineering is located at the Institute of Construction Process and Construction Economics (E235), in the research unit "Construction Process and Methods" (E235-01). The Institute also includes the research units "Construction Economics and Management" (E235-02) and "Digital Building Process" (E235-03). The research unit "Construction Economics and Management" deals with cost and schedule planning of construction projects, tendering and awarding processes as well as national and international contract models, management of construction projects (in particular risk management) and the qualitative and quantitative assessment of project risks. The research unit "Digital Building Process" deals with the central topics of the digital transformation of the construction industry (Construction 4.0): Building Information Modelling (BIM), information management, data structures and data analyses for all phases of the construction process (data consistency), process analysis for digitalisation, mixed reality. Construction process engineering is a highly interdisciplinary field that combines technical and economic knowledge with the practical implementation of manufacturing processes and logistics on construction sites. In research and teaching, the professorship covers a wide range of topics, from classic construction methods in structural, civil and plant engineering as well as tunneling to the application of current digital technologies. The applicant is expected to be familiar with and further develop scientific research activities in construction process engineering and to maintain and intensify contacts with the construction sector and the construction industry. Research and teaching will focus on topics such as the optimization of construction processes, resource and quality management as well as logistics. Forward-looking methods are used, e.g. digitalization in construction process and machinery technology, data analysis to optimize construction processes and the use of robotics and automation. All of this takes place against the background of sustainability and occupational safety in the construction process. Your profile: Completed doctoral or PhD studies in the relevant subject from a domestic or equivalent foreign university or research institution or achievement of an equivalent scientific qualification The qualification for teaching (venia docendi) acquired at a domestic or equivalent foreign university or an academic qualification recognisable as being equivalent to the venia docendi, e.g. acquired through previous activity Scientific reputation among experts, proven by publications in internationally prestigious scientific journals, patents, scientific lectures, prices, through professional activity for example through participation in or responsible realisation of internationally recognised construction projects, or equivalent services Comprehensive knowledge and high level of expertise in several of the areas of digitalization of construction process engineering, data analysis, construction processes, robotics, and automation are an advantage Experience in the areas of organization and personnel management in practical construction operations and in corporate management preferred Ability to form networks, proven e.g. by extended relevant stays abroad and/or through cooperation with foreign and domestic universities and research institutions and/or with relevant consortia and companies Experience in the acquisition, execution, and management of research projects and/or national and international large-scale projects The ability and willingness to manage a research unit Pedagogic and didactic suitability for academic teaching in the relevant subject in English and German Experience in the (co-) supervision of scientific work of students, e.g. during doctoral / PhD studies or in previous employment Social and gender competence as well as experienced in the promotion of young researchers and the advancement of women Willingness to move the centre of life to Vienna (On-site presence) In case there is no adequate knowledge of German, willingness to quickly learn German is presupposed for teaching in bachelor programmes and participation in management of the institute and the faculty as well as in university bodies We offer: Excellent working conditions in an attractive research environment Attractive compensation and further benefits (see Fringe-Benefits) Financial support of research activities in the first years (e.g. equipment endowment/ start-up funds) Support in moving to Vienna Dual career advice offers partners and families of the university professors appointed to TU Wien various support opportunities tailored to their individual situation An employee-friendly environment in a city with an extraordinary high quality of life TU Wien is committed to increasing the proportion of women in particular in leadership positions. Classification in the pay grade A1 of the collective bargaining agreement for employees of universities and a minimum salary of EUR 92,460.20 gross annual is provided for.
