Overview 
Travelers is a leading property and casualty insurer. The Marine Energy & Liability Underwriter role sits in the London Market team, focusing on underwriting profitability across the book, processing new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments, and monitoring rate adequacy. The role involves working on a broad Marine Liability account, building broker relationships, and contributing to the growth of Travelers' Marine platform. This position supports a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) for full-time employees, subject to policy adjustments.
Responsibilities- Own the profitability, growth and retention of the Line of Business and ensure consistency of underwriting initiatives.
- Underwrite in accordance with company policies, controls, audit requirements, and Lloyds Underwriting Management Standards, including authority levels and Lloyds Individual Registration Byelaw where applicable.
- Contribute to the development of the assigned Line of Business by researching target business, competitors, and market factors.
- Accurately enter quotes, risks and endorsements in appropriate systems to support management, statistical and regulatory reporting.
- Prepare data and reports to support underwriting policies and standards as needed.
- Monitor market factors and world affairs to identify new opportunities.
- Promote Travelers' Line of Business, distribution strategy and underwriting philosophy; build strong partnerships with agents, brokers and customers.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to colleagues as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience within the Lloyd's market and understanding of internal/external market factors.
- Underwriting experience.
- University degree.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and ability to apply underwriting knowledge relative to authority.
- Ability to make sound quoting and pricing decisions in the company's best interests.
- Strong judgment, communication and teamwork skills (intermediate level).
- Relationship Management: ability to build and maintain productive relationships to meet objectives.
- Analytical Thinking/Financial Acumen: ability to analyse information, identify cause/effect and support decision making; understanding of finance and accounting principles as they relate to underwriting profitability.
- Product/Technical: technical proficiency commensurate with underwriting authority.
- Business Perspective: awareness of internal and external factors affecting the Lloyd's Market.
- Studying towards ACII qualification is expected.
- Must Have: Previous Property & Casualty insurance experience in underwriting, operations or brokerage; secondary education or equivalent.
