Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based within Rheumatology and will have a named educational supervisor for their post. They will play an important role in the development and delivery of clinical teaching to medical students on the St George's University MBBS programmes. They will scope and design the placement structure for the coming academic year as Rheumatology moves from a timetable with short student visits and didactic teaching to a Home Firm set up within Medicine for the new MBBS course structure. Rheumatology learning activities are part of the Penultimate Year (4th Year) specialties attachment taking place eight times per year. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the teaching components which consists of lectures, small group including patient perspective sessions and case based workshops. They will also deliver Rheumatology clinical teaching for students on ward based placements to blend holistic care principles with other parts of their clinical experience, mirroring real world practice. Administrative tasks include timetabling and liaising with consultant staff to maximise the use of clinical resources across the Trust. The post holder will be expected to liaise with similar post holders to identify deficiencies and opportunities for clinical teaching across the Trust.

Person Specification Qualifications

• MBBS and Membership in relevant specialty
• Intercalated BSc or equivalent

Experience

• Successful completion of Core Training programme
• Broad medical experience with experience in Rheumatology
• Clinical experience beyond core training, research with publications

Skills and Knowledge - Clinical

• Basic knowledge of diagnosis and management of common clinical conditions
• Management of acutely ill patients
• Specialty based knowledge

Skills and Knowledge - Teaching

• Teaching medical students
• Clinical and organisational teaching experience
• Experience of delivery virtual teaching
• Lecturing and assessment
• Knowledge of PBL and CBL
• Teaching course
• Understanding of managing the virtual teaching environment (e.g.: preventing bullying behaviours between online participants)
