Offer DescriptionApplications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Business.
The Energy Narratives and Change in Coastal Communities in Ireland (ENACT) project is an engaged research project working with coastal residents in Co. Clare and Co. Cork to develop and understand narratives related to the grassroots experience of energy production and the transition from fossil fuels to renewables, in particular offshore wind energy. ENACT uses these energy narratives to investigate how existing energy infrastructures serve as nexuses of meaning and attachment for the community. It also seeks to understand how the local history of energy production is brought into dialogue with renewables development in an area, for instance through narratives that convey a sense of sociocultural continuity or economic security. In this way, ENACT can help give shape to engagements between government actors (e.g., county councils) and communities to determine the local development potential and reception of renewable energy projects in coastal areas, in line with key government policy including the 2023 Climate Action Plan and the Rural Development Policy .
We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to lead key work packages in the ENACT project. This includes developing the engaged research process, working with local communities to establish, refine and finalise energy narratives (notably by incorporating resident-led and other engaged research methods), and producing project outputs such as publications, policy briefs and community-oriented formats for knowledge sharing and dissemination. The role requires close collaboration with the ENACT project team and will be developed under the supervision and direction of the PI and Project Partners.
