Job Description
Weare seeking a motivated doctor to join our Haematology Department, workingalongside the existing middle grade team to provide comprehensive inpatient andoutpatient care.
Inaddition to core clinical responsibilities, the successful candidate will workclosely with the Clinical Trials Team across haematology subspecialties, with aparticular focus on cellular therapy. The successful candidate will haveopportunities to participate in a dedicated clinical trials outpatient clinic,attend disease-specific clinical trial meetings, and be involved in trialadministration. Responsibilities will include reviewing investigation results,grading adverse events, reporting serious adverse events, and contributing tothe development of clinical trial working instructions.
Thepost offers the opportunity to rotate through a broad range of haematologysubspecialties. The appointee will gain experience in managing patients withmyeloid and lymphoid malignancies, myeloma, and non-malignant haematologicalconditions, as well as those undergoing autologous and allogeneic stem celltransplantation and CAR-T cell therapy. The role also includes reviewingpatients attending the Leeds Clinical Research Facility.
Therewill be opportunities to develop procedural competencies in bone marrow biopsyand basic morphology skills. The successful candidate will also be encouragedto participate in real-world data or Quality Improvement projects, with anexpectation of abstract submission.
Main duties of the job Theappointee will work as part of a multidisciplinary team across our inpatienthaematology wards. Inpatient services are organised into subspecialty teams:myeloma, lymphoma, chronic lymphoproliferative disorders (CLPD), myeloid, andbone marrow transplant. Each team comprises a consultant, specialist registrar,and clinical nurse specialist, supported by a mix of Internal Medicine Trainees(IMT) and Foundation doctors. The teams are further strengthened by AdvancedClinical Practitioners and Physician Associates, ensuring comprehensive andcollaborative patient care.
Outpatientresponsibilities will be aligned to a subspecialty team, with a particularfocus on clinical trial clinics and associated administrative activities. Theappointee will also review clinical trial patients attending the Leeds ClinicalResearch Facility.
About us Thehaematology department at SJUH is led by a team of 21 consultants, all withtheir own subspecialty interests. The department has an expanding CellularTherapy service and is a CAR-T treatment centre. The majority of inpatients aretreated on two dedicated haematology wards, each with 20 side rooms forpatients. Adjacent to this is our ambulatory care unit and haematology day unitwhere outpatient clinics take place. Additional haematology patients are caredfor within bedspaces in the oncology CSU.
Themedical team also work alongside a team of highly experienced senior nurses onthe inpatient wards, along with dedicated clinical nurse specialists withineach team and a network of specialised dieticians, pharmacists and therapists.Teaching opportunities take place in both formal and informal settings withsubspecialty MDTs at which trainees are encouraged to present patients, regularacademic meetings, regional update days.
