The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) is seeking to appoint a Transport Planner to join our Transport Investment and Pipeline Team. We're looking for a dynamic, strategic and collaborative professional who is passionate about delivering positive transport outcomes. Whether working on long-term transport strategies, developing investment proposals or working with partners, you'll be motivated by making a real difference. This is a critical time in our transformation and growth journey, and you'll be pivotal in helping us achieve our ambitions by:
- Developing evidence-based solutions to complex transport challenges.
- Ensuring transport planning activity aligns with local, regional and national priorities.
- Undertaking technical assessments and preparing reports, business cases and briefing papers to inform decision-making.
- Providing specialist transport planning expertise to colleagues and WECA stakeholders.
The Transport Planner provides technical and analytical expertise across the Transport Directorate, contributing to investment programmes, infrastructure schemes and the delivery of the WECA Transport Strategy.
What You'll Be Doing- Support the team to implement the WECA Transport Strategy and associated transport priorities.
- Contribute to the development of business cases and funding proposals aligned with the MCA Growth Strategy and Transport Strategy, ensuring a clear link between strategic objectives and delivery outcomes.
- Contribute to transport modelling and in-depth studies to assess the impact of proposed schemes and inform evidence-led planning.
- Work with key stakeholders to assess and forecast the transport impacts of proposed developments, using modelling and analysis to inform network performance and appropriate mitigation measures.
- Manage contractor outputs and deliverables, ensuring data and research are relevant, reliable and fit for purpose.
- Produce clear findings reports, presenting evidence, analysis and recommendations to inform investment decisions and scheme development.
You will be an experienced transport planning professional with a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing modern transport networks.

The salary for this role is £38,220 - £41,771. This is the full-time equivalent salary, and will be pro-rata for part-time . We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments for external candidates typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.
