Job Description

We are currently supporting a local authority in the recruitment of an experienced Education Transport Officer to join their dedicated transport team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring children and young people, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), have access to safe, reliable, and effective transport services.

Working closely with schools, transport providers, families, and internal stakeholders, you will coordinate home-to-school transport arrangements while ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and safeguarding requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage home-to-school transport arrangements in line with relevant legislation and local policies.
  • Procure and oversee transport services, ensuring providers meet contractual and operational requirements.
  • Embed safeguarding and child protection principles within all transport arrangements.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, transport operators, parents, carers, and internal teams to resolve issues and deliver positive outcomes.
  • Respond effectively to service changes, disruptions, and urgent transport requirements.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are applied consistently whilst maintaining a customer-focused approach.
  • Negotiate and liaise with stakeholders to manage complex situations and achieve practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records and utilise relevant systems to support service delivery.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working within education transport, passenger transport, or a similar local authority service.
  • Knowledge of home-to-school transport legislation and statutory responsibilities.
  • Understanding of SEND and the transport requirements of vulnerable children and young people.
  • Experience managing transport providers, contracts, or commissioned services.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT-based systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

If you have experience within education transport services and are looking for your next local authority contract opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
