Transport Planner / Coordinator

Location: Corby, Market Harborough, Northamptonshire

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000 per annum depending on experience

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

The Opportunity

An established transport and logistics business is looking for an organised and proactive Transport Planner / Coordinator to join its operation in Corby.

This position will focus on planning and coordinating transport activity for a dedicated customer contract, giving you direct ownership of its daily operation. You will ensure deliveries are planned efficiently, drivers and vehicles are utilised effectively, and the customer receives a reliable and responsive service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan daily transport operations for a dedicated customer contract.
  • Allocate drivers and vehicles efficiently across scheduled deliveries and collections.
  • Produce practical and cost-effective route plans.
  • Monitor transport activity throughout the day and respond to delays or operational changes.
  • Communicate regularly with drivers, customers and internal departments.
  • Provide customers with accurate updates regarding delivery times and potential issues.
  • Ensure all work is planned in line with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and transport legislation.
  • Manage delivery paperwork, PODs and transport documentation.
  • Update the transport management system with accurate planning information.
  • Resolve problems quickly to protect service levels and minimise disruption.
  • Support the wider transport team when required.
What We're Looking For:
  • Previous experience within transport planning, fleet coordination or a similar logistics role.
  • Experience planning an HGV fleet is strongly preferred.
  • A good understanding of drivers' hours and transport compliance.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and make decisions in a busy transport environment.
  • Good geographical knowledge and route-planning ability.
  • Confident IT skills and experience using transport planning or fleet management systems.
  • A reliable, organised and customer-focused approach.
