Transport and Logistics Manager

Galway

Our client are seeking a hands on Logistics & Transport Manager to lead and optimise their logistics and transport operations across three stock locations and direct supplier delivery channels. Ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost effective movement of inbound steel products to our stock holding locations and production facility, as well as outbound customers deliveries across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and mainland UK.

The role will focus on minimising logistics costs, optimising delivery times, management of our 3rd party fleet network, while maintaining compliance, safety, and service excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage daily transport operations, across 3 stock locations, including scheduling and routing of deliveries, to maximise fuel efficiency and fleet utilisation and minimise costs per load.
  • Ensure accurate and timely deliveries aligned with customer requirements and project schedules.
  • Ensure consistent processes and performance across the logistics and transport function, ensuring standard operating procedures (SOPs) are adhere to.
  • Liaise with production, procurement, and sales teams to align logistics with demand and to optimise loads in terms of weight and routing.
  • Manage inbound raw material deliveries from the 3 stock locations to ensure stock levels are maintained for the production facility.
  • Support project-based deliveries (construction sector) with tight scheduling requirements.
  • Manage delivery queries, minimising any potential delays, and service issues proactively, liaising with the sales team to ensure our customer receive exceptional customer service.
  • Manage relationships with transport providers to optimise our logistic operations, including contract negotiation and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure safe and efficient loading and/or unloading processes across all sites, in line with company H&S procedures.
  • Ensure full compliance with transport regulations, health & safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure all deliveries (from stock locations and direct-from-supplier shipments) are fully supported by accurate and compliant delivery documentation.
  • Maintain real time accuracy of our ERP system, ensuring all shipment data is updated promptly and correctly.
  • Ensure that sales invoices are generated at point of shipment, aligning with company revenue recognition and financial controls.
  • Track, analyse and optimise KPIs by stock location and overall, including:
  • OTIF (On-Time-In-Full delivery)
  • Cost per tonne delivered.
  • Stock location transfer costs.
  • Ensure reliable, scalable, and cost-effective logistics operations to support business growth.
  • In conjunction with the IT & Process Improvement Manager and Operations Manager, identify, develop, and implement best-in-class transport and logistics processes across the organisation.
  • Drive the adoption of technology solutions (ERP, TMS, digital planning tools) to enhance visibility, efficiency, and control across multi-site and supplier-direct delivery operations.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision making within the logistics and transport function.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in logistic and/or, transport management, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related field desirable but not essential
  • Strong experience managing inbound and outbound logistics, including heavy or bulk materials (steel experience advantageous).
  • Proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings and process improvements in logistics operations.
  • Experience with ERP systems and transport/logistics software (TMS/WMS).
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations, health & safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing third-party logistics providers and transport contracts.
  • Understanding warehouse operations, inventory management, and production planning is beneficial.
