Job Description
Job Overview

The post holder will oversee the delivery of the Emergency Medicine ST3 training Programme in NHSE England North West, covering the Mersey part of the Scheme.

The post holder will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the North West School of Emergency Medicine and contribute to supporting the School Operational Programme.

The post holder will be a member of the School Board and Emergency Medicine Specialist Training committee.

All educator recruitment activity a new appointment will have an end date of 31 March 2027. We are reviewing recruitment processes beyond this date and will provide updates with new procedures.

Main Duties

The Training Programme Director will focus upon improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engaging faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi professional links.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Specialty's Regional Training Programme
  • Handle specialty specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns
  • Recruitment to training posts and programmes
  • Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management careers support, less than full time training, inter deanery transfer, academic training and other related work streams.
Qualifications
  • Consultant / Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine currently working in NHS Trust in North West England
  • Member / Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine
  • Education qualification such as Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Medical Education
Skills
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Effective interpersonal skills, as well as written and oral presentation skills
  • Committed to own professional development and learning
  • Curiosity, openness to new ideas and willingness to be challenged
  • Adequate organisational skills to deliver the operational aspects of the role in a timely manner
  • Ability to rapidly establish academic credibility
Experience
  • Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
  • Experience as an educational supervisor especially for Emergency Medicine trainees
  • Considerable experience working with doctors in an educational context
  • Good understanding of the curriculum including placements that must be completed
  • Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
  • Experience as an educational supervisor in Emergency Medicine
  • Understanding of the Workforce Transformation agenda
