Job Description
Training Programme Director - Medical Oncology 
Within NHS England, South East Region, the Wessex Local Office is responsible for the planning, development, education and training of the future and current healthcare and public health workforce across Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Salisbury.
This role is for a Consultant with a strong interest in medical education and training. Applications are invited from current STC members or from those within the specialty who can demonstrate relevant interest in education and training.
Responsibilities- Overall delivery of the Medical Oncology training programme.
- Lead improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes.
- Drive whole workforce transformation and develop multi professional links.
- Work with the Head of School in leading a wide range of functions aligned to NHS England mandate.
- Prepare for a secondment, coordinating with the local Director of Medical Education and ensuring clinical time is back filled.
- Provide a reference in support of the candidate's application.
- Primary clinical healthcare qualification.
- Fellowship of College/Faculty or professional association.
- Attendance at courses aimed at supporting educational development.
- Experience working with learners or doctors in training.
- Experience of clinical and educational leadership, including managing a multi professional team.
- Demonstrable track record of delivery of service and education.
- Understanding of developments involving relevant Colleges/Faculties and the workforce transformation agenda.
- Experience with recruitment, selection and E&D in recent years.
- Active involvement in the appraisal process.
- Knowledge of NHS structures, processes and educational context.
- Doctors require a licence to practice.
- Previous or current leadership in healthcare education.
- Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
- Understanding of current health and social care and education policy.
- Leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate others.
- Strong sense of vision and ability to innovate.
- Political astuteness with ability to manage complexity and uncertainty sensitively.
- Problem solving and objective decision making.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skills.
- Quick establishment of personal and professional credibility with stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Commitment to personal development and support of others.
- Rapid establishment of academic credibility.
- The fixed funding contribution for this role is £5,000 per annum, per PA, as an Educational Management Contribution (EMC). 0.5 EMC has been allocated.
- Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only; agreement should be obtained from their employer before submitting the application.
- Successful candidates may undergo an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) to retrieve key data from their current or previous NHS employer.
- Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in person.
