Job Description
Age Requirements

You can join between the ages of 18 - 36. At the time of your application you will need to be between 17 years & 9 months old and 35 years & 6 months old.

GCSE Grade A-C/9 4 or Scottish National 5 grade A C in Maths, English Language and three other academic subjects, such as History, Geography, Science (double counts as 2 GCSEs), Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Business Studies or any language qualification.

Security Clearance
  • CTC (Counter Terrorist Check)
  • SC (Security Check) at Phase 1 Training
  • DV (Developed Vetting) at Phase 2 Training
Key Responsibilities
  • Become an expert in an area of military intelligence
  • Specialise throughout your career in areas such as counter intelligence, human intelligence, operational intelligence, signals intelligence, languages and cyber
  • Use analysis and assessment to influence high level decision making
  • Work in a high security environment and support operations worldwide
  • Obtain valuable qualifications, including university degrees, through training credits
Training Pathway

Step 1 - Initial military training (3 6 weeks) teaches fieldcraft, weapons handling and basic soldiering. The course is delivered at Pirbright (Surrey) or Winchester (Hampshire).

Step 2 - 15 week Phase 2 Training at the Joint Intelligence Training Group near Bedford, where you develop analytical and intelligence briefing skills and prepare for deployment. Successful completion leads to a Junior Command and Leadership course and promotion to Lance Corporal.

Training salary: £27,282. Upon completion as Lance Corporal you earn £35,310 per year. All training counts toward degree level credits in Intelligence and International Relations.

A timeline from application to Phase 2 completion is approximately 3 6 months, though individual circumstances may vary.

Application Process
  1. Complete an online application - provide education, work history and motivation.
  2. Meet with an Army Recruiter to discuss your application, answer questions and outline next steps.
  3. Undergo medical checks to ensure you are fit for service.
  4. Attend a 2 day residential Assessment Centre, including fitness tests, cognitive assessments, medical examinations and team exercises.
  5. Complete background and security checks; timing depends on personal circumstances.

The overall process can take 3 5 months.

Your Future

As an Intelligence Corps operative you will analyse intercepted communications, become a language expert, conduct defensive cyber operations and deliver advanced battle winning communications. You may also specialise as a Cyber Warfare Specialist or in Electronic Warfare Signals Intelligence (EWSI). Your work supports critical operations across the globe.

This role is also available in the Army Reserve

Serve part time while maintaining a civilian career. Training occurs on evenings and weekends, with opportunities for overseas deployments and adventure training.
