Trade Compliance Officer / Trade Compliance Specialist

A fantastic opportunity for an Trade Compliance Officer has arisen to join a leading defence and aerospace organisation. Working as part of an established Trade Compliance function, you'll play a key role in supporting import and export activities, ensuring adherence to UK and US trade regulations, and providing expert guidance across the business.
This position offers the opportunity to become a recognised point of contact for trade compliance matters, working closely with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies across multiple UK sites.
Role - Trade Compliance Officer / Trade Compliance Specialist Location - Buckinghamshire (hybrid working available) Type - Permanent position Salary - £40,000-£50,000 + benefits
Key responsibilities of the Trade Compliance Officer / Trade Compliance Specialist role and not be limited to:
- Maintain export classifications within the ERP system, ensuring data accuracy and compliance.
- Update ERP records with relevant export information, including licence selection and export approvals to support business delivery and revenue forecasts.
- Conduct supplier and customer screening activities in line with trade compliance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with UK export control legislation and associated regulatory requirements.
- Support ECJU and HMRC audits, compliance reviews and site visits, ensuring records and documentation are maintained to the required standard.
- Assist with compliance activities relating to US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Dual-Use regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to purchasing, engineering, commercial, project management and other business functions on import and export compliance matters.
- Maintain import and export registers, ensuring all documentation is retained in accordance with audit and regulatory requirements.
- Support trade compliance activities throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial commercial discussions through to final delivery.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for employees requiring guidance on trade compliance issues and queries.
- Support the TC Manager and wider compliance team with ongoing business and regulatory requirements.
Key skills and experience required for the Trade Compliance Officer / Trade Compliance Specialist role and not limited to:
- Previous experience working within the defence, aerospace or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Good understanding of UK import and export legislation relating to military, defence or controlled products.
- Working knowledge of US ITAR and EAR regulations and their impact on UK-based organisations.
- Experience supporting export licensing, classification activities and trade compliance processes.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping and documentation management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a fast-paced customer-focused environment.
- Experience working with ERP systems and compliance-related databases.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory requirements to non-specialists.
- Exposure to UK and international trade compliance regulations across a complex product portfolio.
