Three Junior Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry

This is a substantive post for a 3 x Junior Clinical Fellows in Psychiatry in Lambeth and Lewisham boroughs, part of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. You will initially be assigned to a post based on your preference. If two or more candidates want the same job, allocation will be randomised for fairness. The post is about more than service provision; it seeks to help successful candidates grow and develop as doctors. The post is full-time (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday). The successful candidate will join the on call rota.

The post offers two sessions supporting professional development, allowing the post holder to undertake projects related to their role and to develop areas of interest. SLaM has an affiliation with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (see later section in this JD), which the successful candidate can explore. SLaM further has many specialist units that candidates may wish to spend time in to expand their knowledge. Other opportunities, such as medical education or QIP work, are available. We will help successful candidates access the myriad of opportunities on offer.

You MUST have two years of working in the NHS as a doctor before applying for this job.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Review and management of inpatients and handling the day-to-day workload of the service.
  • Attending ward rounds and team meetings.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and formulating appropriate risk management plans.
  • Developing care plans for patients.
  • Monitoring the physical health of patients, including examinations and investigations as needed.
  • Liaising with GPs and other professionals/teams within and outside the Trust, including social services, DVLA, and voluntary sector organisations.
  • Attending external patient meetings when appropriate.
  • Making safeguarding referrals.
  • Keeping thorough records, including preparing reports, letters, discharge notifications/summaries, and ensuring all relevant information is recorded in the Trust's electronic notes system (EPJS) and elsewhere as needed.
  • Devoting 8 programmed activities per week to Direct Clinical Care and 2 to Supporting Professional Activity.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participation in service evaluation, audit, research, and quality improvement.
  • Involvement in service development and clinical governance activities.
  • Attending business meetings and other relevant team/Trust meetings.
  • Engaging in academic activities, including team-based teaching, case presentations, and teaching medical/other students attached to the service.
  • Participation in reflective practice sessions.

Person Specification
  • Fully Registered Medical Practitioner
  • Minimum Two Years Working in the NHS as a doctor
  • Experience working in Psychiatry
  • Involvement in Audit/QI
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate medical students and staff of other disciplines
  • Involvement in medical or psychological research
