CONTRACT TYPE: 12 months FTC / Attachment, Full time

DEPARTMENT: TV and Devices, BBC

LOCATION: Salford, MediaCityUK Hybrid minimum 2-3 days a week in the office

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £65,000 to £70,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the TV and Devices team to shape the quality behind BBC iPlayer and Sounds, helping deliver seamless, high quality experiences to UK audiences. As a Test Team Lead, you will drive Quality Engineering strategy, ensuring quality is built into products from discovery through to production, supporting the BBC's ambition to be the leading digital destination for content.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Lead and evolve Quality Engineering strategy, embedding risk based, data informed approaches across teams from discovery through to production
  • Plan capability and capacity, ensuring teams have the right skills, tools, and automation to deliver with confidence
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering quality through automation, CI CD integration, tooling, and observability
  • Build strong relationships with engineering, product, and UX stakeholders, acting as a trusted partner for quality
  • Develop and support quality engineers, fostering technical growth, knowledge sharing, and a strong learning culture
  • Contribute to Test Leadership, shaping shared Quality Engineering principles and improving maturity across TV and Devices
  • Identify and remove low value testing practices, focusing effort on reducing risk and increasing learning
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Strong experience leading software testing and quality activities using risk based approaches in complex environments
  • Proven people management experience including hiring, coaching, mentoring, and supporting career development
  • Experience designing and implementing test automation frameworks and integrating automated testing into CI CD pipelines
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, promoting shared ownership of quality across teams
  • Deep understanding of agile delivery, including behaviour driven and test driven development, and how testing supports engineering flow

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience working with TV platforms such as Virgin Media, Sky, BT, or Freely
  • Experience contributing to Quality Engineering communities of practice
  • Experience using data, metrics, and telemetry to inform quality decisions and risk management
  • Experience supporting teams through organisational or delivery change
  • Experience integrating automation and quality checks within CI CD pipelines
