Job Description

Our OEM Client based in Leamington is searching for a Test Engineer to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a 12-month contract position initially until 31st March 2026, with the potential for further extensions.

Umbrella Pay Rate: £21.75 per hour.

Duties:

This role is key to enabling the laboratory and supports the Lead Engineer for the ongoing operation of the current and future Internal Combustion & Emissions laboratory capability. You will engage directly with our client's university academia and third-party engineering teams, supporting your associated engineer in engine testing within new test cells.

Your fundamental role involves supporting the supervised operations of test cells and preparing test samples, including installation and instrumentation of the unit under test. Collaboration with laboratory customers is essential.

This small team requires coverage of practical, technical, and facility operations, offering a hands-on opportunity to build a team working with our client and third parties on the university campus.

Engagement will be with the associated Engineer to operate two Multi Cycle Engine Test Dyno facilities, with flexibility to support various facilities based on your skills. The role will initially follow a standard day shift pattern, transitioning to double day shifts within approximately two months as skills and system familiarity develop.

Skills:
  1. Preparation of units under test, with understanding of internal combustion systems, including spark and compression ignition.
  2. Fabrication, welding, and basic machining skills are advantageous.
  3. Understanding of instrumentation installation, such as thermocouples and pressure transducers.
  4. Engine inspection, disassembly, and assembly skills.
  5. Preparation and supervised operation of engine test facilities under engineer guidance.
  6. Supporting engineer in liaising with customers to define test requirements and develop test methodologies.
  7. Operating facilities and ensuring compliance with H&S and other standards like ISO 16949 and 14001.
  8. Knowledge transfer to new team members and familiarization of equipment.
  9. Maintaining facilities, conducting user maintenance, and collaborating with equipment suppliers for full functional maintenance.
  10. Shared responsibility for the physical operation and upkeep of the facilities.
Education:
  1. City & Guilds Level 3 in a relevant discipline or a fully time-served apprenticeship.
  2. Relevant experience supporting your application.
